Radars - Sarkozy responds to the FFMC -

Following a statement from the French Federation of Angry Bikers entitled Les mensonges de Sarkozy, the Minister of the Interior replied in a two-page letter that he would be happy to receive them to talk about it. Exchange of courtesies…

In a titled "The lies of Sarkozy", the French Federation of Angry Motorcyclists (FFMC) vigorously challenges the Minister of the Interior on his road safety policy based on repression.

"He lies by making believe that one cannot defend oneself against the automatic sanction control. It is false because this measure was taken in urgency, without coherence with the existing laws. The reports addressed to the violators present irregularities which have always been sanctioned by the courts. ", explains in particular the Committee for the defense of rights and freedoms set up by the FFMC, made up of two members of the National Bureau and two lawyers at the Paris Bar.

"I believe it is necessary to provide you with several legal details on the automated control system, insofar as you do not seem to know the latest developments in our law", Nicolas Sarkozy retorts dryly in a two-page letter dated today : "I would have liked to enlighten you on this point, but your press release fails to specify the irregularities in question".

"He is lying by saying that the automatic sanction control is final, while the system is only experimental, it has been validated for only one year by the CNIL", continues the FFMC. "No one has ever said the opposite," Sarko replies: "the authorization requested from the CNIL only concerned (…) the first 100 devices to be installed in 2003. The CNIL gave a favorable opinion. We have contacted the CNIL so that it authorizes (…) the following 1000 devices definitively ".

"He is lying by forgetting to point out that in order to set up automatic sanction control and find the flashes, files are crossed, in defiance of the rights of persons and the law on data processing and freedoms", notes the FFMC. "There is indeed consultation of the National Register of registrations, the file of rented vehicles or the file of changes of address of the Post Office, admits the cowboy of Neuilly. But I would remind you that it is precisely on this point that the consultation of the CNIL focused and that the latter gave a favorable opinion ".

"He lies by asserting that the behavior of drivers has improved. Behavior has changed: drivers slow down on expressways and some sections of national roads known to be equipped with radars and set off again once the lane is clear. , the safety distances are reduced and the micro plugs are generalized ", deplores the FFMC. "It is true that (…) the mortality of motorcycle riders decreases in much smaller proportions than that of other riders. I regret to note that bikers are still an over-represented category among the dead and that you do not take not take this reality into account to spread a more responsible message ", then asserts the cantor of the all-repressive, seeming to deny that bikers, vulnerability requires, are probably among the most responsible of all road users.

In the end, only the assertion of the FFMC according to which "the confirmed boss of Road Safety is no longer the Minister of Equipment but that of the Interior" is not contradicted by the intermittent of the Place Beauvau . Gilles de Robien will appreciate…

Finally, an opening attempt and / or pre-electoral maneuver, the letter ends with a word from Sarkozy himself: "I will be happy to receive you to talk about it!". Purists will have noted the absence of "s", meaning that it is a simple future and not a conditional…

"The FFMC will go there," indicates the Federation after having read this letter – not without recalling that it had already unsuccessfully formulated a request for an appointment – to "make proposals for a road safety policy based on prevention and training and express its condemnation of excessive repression and in particular of the automaticity of sanctions ".

Decidedly, after Gilles de Robien who also dreams of "meeting bikers" (read), this interest of the government towards us "motorcycle drivers", two months away from the regional, is extremely touching … But Wouldn’t it be easier to just let us roll, quite simply ?
