Concerned about the speed limit of 80 km / h on the secondary network which he considers "discriminatory" vis-à-vis rural French people, the deputy Thierry Benoit wrote to the Prime Minister and asked Carlos Ghosn, CEO of the Renault group , what he envisioned in terms of technological progress.

The mobilization continues against the on national and departmental roads. In a – main architect of this measure but -, the deputy Thierry Benoit (UDI, Ille-et-Vilaine) proposes to Edouard Philippe "to adapt this measure to the reality on the ground and in a pragmatic way".

  • MNC of January 18, 2018 :

Mr. Benoit, secretary of the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, first of all proposes that the conditions of speed limitation on the entire road network be "examined at the level of each department" in the framework of the law "new organization of the territories of the Republic" (NOTRe). This consultation could be done with the help of the "mixed security unit" of each department, which is made up of representatives of the State, the department, the police, road users and local elected officials..

In order not to penalize rural populations, who use their vehicles more than city dwellers, he also asks the Prime Minister to "implement tax incentives" in order to rebalance the impact of this drop in speed – and that of the increase in fuel prices – on drivers from "landlocked and poorly equipped departments" with public transport services.

Finally, concerning the will of the Prime Minister to "", Thierry Benoit recalls that he tabled a bill in June 2009 aiming to create a "bonus-malus for the driving license based on criteria linked to experience, number of kilometers traveled and number of accidents ".

"I am submitting it again this year", concludes the deputy, hoping that Edouard Philippe can thus measure "the impact of the decisions announced recently, which worry individuals but also road professionals in our territories"…
