Kawasaki Z750 vs. Yamaha FZ8: The 2010 Match !
Unbeaten for 5 years, the Kawasaki Z750 sees the appearance this year of an opponent to its size: the Yamaha FZ8! Cubing a little more and offering a compromise more oriented towards comfort, can the newcomer win this decisive match? ? Duel !
1st set stationary: Z750
Many times seen and reviewed, the Z750 continues to attract hundreds of French bikers every month. The new 2010 bitons color "white and black with green edging" keeps the myth alive and prevents the "seven and a half" from getting too old against the very recent Z1000.
On this specific color, the Greens could however have split four additional edging on the rims, to accompany the one that adorns the tank. Facing them, the Blues score precious points by equipping their new model with golden elements: fork, rims and brake calipers.
Already seen, the look of the FZ8 is more dapper: normal, for a novelty that wants to attract customers! In addition, the quality of parts and finish of the Yamaha are superior and a simple glance is enough to be sure..
Among the small details – which make big differences -, we will identify in particular the brake fluid reservoir on the handlebars of the Yamaha, much more discreet than the plastic pot of the Kawasaki. On the Kawa on the contrary, we regret that the injection – its wires, its connections and its conduits – are not even hidden.
Iron Lady – and a bit of carbon – against Aluminum Lady
Even more striking, the difference in the cycle parts gives the FZ8 a big advantage: the aluminum and the design of its frame and its swingarm literally humiliate the square section arm and the plastic-clad steel frame of the Zed.
On the other hand, the Blues missed out on the pots! As much as the exhaust of the Z750 may displease with its bulky format, that of the Yamaha will have a hard time seducing anyone, with its unspecified look and its poor quality paint … , Giannelli or Leovince plans to offer the best discount on adaptable FZ8s when leaving concessions? We bet that everyone is already rubbing their hands !
The saddles of the two motorcycles, perched at approximately the same height (815 mm), allow the vast majority of bikers to put both heels on the ground. On the Kawa, the relatively curved handlebars and the footrests slightly higher and set back than those of the Yam ‘induce a slightly sportier position, although the most "sporty" on the Green is by far the saddle. !
In comparison, the Yam ‘offers a much softer, almost senatorial seat. The legs are less bent and the tank a little more flared allows you to tighten the bike as closely as possible on all the thighs.

But it is by observing the meters that we realize that the 1st set of this match is not that expeditious … Yamaha was content to stick a white background on the meter that the FZ1 already share and the XJ6, with moreover a partial trip more than that of the Z750. But the Kawa, since the appearance of the brand new Z1000, has its own speedometer, which is also quite aesthetic..
Aside from the extra trip and a different layout, the Yamaha and Kawasaki meters are very similar: analog tachometer, digital display for speed, odometer, fuel gauge, time and engine temperature and the usual warning lights (neutral, flashing-warning, oil, reserve).
Very classic and perfectly complete in short: what would be done with a temperature of the ambient air or a gear indicator engaged on such machines cut for the daily grind? We will appreciate in passing that the two motorcycles have a key with coded immobilizer.
However, the two roadsters do not completely ignore the transport of locks. Under the passenger seat of the Yamaha, we can accommodate a small disc lock. And if the Kawasaki passenger seat does not offer much – rather wires and tubes galore! -, a small cable allows you to remove the driver’s seat which then offers, wonder of wonders, a deep storage space suitable for accommodating a disc lock of any size, a spray of chain grease and thin rain pants: rarely seen in current production! The effort is therefore to be welcomed, even if for many users it will not be sufficient..
Indeed, where to put a chain or a real U, a rain suit or real spare gloves sheltered from bad weather? Likewise, we regret the absence on our two opponents of the day of central stand…
All that remains is to wake up the mechanics, with a simple press on the right button. Instantly, the Z750 takes over: louder and more buzzing, its slow motion gives it a superior presence despite its 31 cc less (779 for the Yam ‘against 748 cc for the Kawa).
We pass on the ugly noise that the clutch of our test Zed let out cold to attribute, in the end, this first round to the Z750 … but just barely! Some will cry slander – and it is quite legitimate as the attribution of certain points is subjective -, but the referee is obliged to decide !
