Rally of Corsica: Imperial Piazza !
As expected, it was Paul-Christian Piazza, the native of the country, who won everything this weekend and won the 6th Corsica rally on the handlebars of his KTM 450 EXC. A customer for the final title? Report.
Third round, first quack !
After the 30-minute break, we are off again for the last lap of the day stage. The simplified route is direct by the national until the special of Bocognano. Relaxing, but rather haunting, especially at the imposed average of 50 km / h: such an average makes us arrive about fifteen minutes early at the time control, while driving "street legal" of course !
At the start of Special 5 … it’s not going away! A heavy fall from Philippe Jezequel (BMW 1200 GS) led to the intervention of an ambulance and the special doctor, whose presence was necessary during the injured person’s trip to the hospital. The return of the doctor being delayed, and in order not to cause too much delay on the rally program, the organization decides to cancel this third timed passage in Bocognano, the presence of a doctor on the special being compulsory for the progress. normal running.
We therefore pass Bocognano in liaison mode and there is only one stage left to complete this day stage. No luck for Nicolas Derrien during this link: the pilot of the Panda F8RR n ° 1 stupidly fell following a bad downshift entering a turn, blocking the rear wheel and causing him to leave the road … Nico got out of it. with a broken index finger, but the 2011 title holder is out for the rest! Decidedly, for Nico, 2012 is a year for Derrien…
At the Stone Bridge special, Paul-Christian Piazza concluded the day again on the handlebars of his KTM 450 EXC with the best time in 2’13.96, i.e. 5 hundredths of a second only ahead of Michel Marchini and his Honda 450 HM (2 ’14 .01). Flavien Coitoux on KTM 690 SMC secures the third fastest time in 2’15.12 … The first three come from JMP Racing, great teamwork !
Back in Porticcio, after preparing the machines for the night stage, made the accounts: Paul-Christian Piazza (KTM 450 EXC) largely won the day stage with more than 20 seconds ahead of Carulu Biancucci (KTM 990 SMR). Bruno Langlois (Ducati 1100 Streetfighter) is third, almost 24 seconds behind Paul-Christian.
In sidecar, the Laur / Ferrieu crew on Choda 1300 Suzuki leads Marlin / Vignand (Choda Benelli 1130 TNT) by 2.93 seconds while the Amblard / Bourdiaux crew on Choda 1100 ZZR follows a little more than five seconds behind.
In Sport, Jean-Laurent Corchia on Suzuki 650 Gladius leads the dance 6.54 seconds ahead of Sebastien Padovani’s Kawasaki 650 ER6. Thierry Canazzi on KTM 400 EXC is 8.58 seconds behind Corchia.
On the Topsports side, Carulu Biancucci is in the lead with 3.72 seconds ahead of the Ducati 1100 Streetfighter of Bruno Langlois and 23.57 seconds on the official KTM 990 of the Site pilot, Julien Toniutti.
The Mono category is then well led by the KTM 450 EXC of Paul-Christian Piazza the extra-terrestrial, 26.23 seconds ahead of Flavien Coitoux on KTM 690 SMC and 29.31 seconds ahead of Jose Campocasso on Honda 450 HM.
In the Classics, Patrick Cosnuau on a Honda 750 VFR is ahead of Nick Ayrton and his Suzuki 1100 GSXR by 2.31 seconds. And on the side of the Anciennes, the event does not include a night stage, the final classification is known: Gerard Spagli on Kawasaki Z1000 prances at the head of the category with more than a minute ahead of the Christmas Z1000 Offering. Third place goes to Guy Marchand on Honda 750 Four.
For some, the night promises to be decisive …
