Let’s go for the French rally championship 2014! Despite strong Corsican resistance and in difficult conditions, Julien Toniutti reiterates his 2013 victory, thus offering his first victory to his new Yamaha MT-09. Story.

The French championship starts with a bang for the Site driver, Julien Toniutti as he offers a first victory in competition to the Yamaha MT-09 of Team 2B, his mount for the French road rally championship in 2014 !

However, it was not a given: the racing conditions were not optimal for Julien who had very little experience riding the Yamaha MT-09 following the somewhat late preparation of his machine. . The weather conditions made the road extremely slippery, which did not necessarily put the fiery Yamaha MT-09 to its advantage, which was also fitted with approved road tires, as required by road rally regulations..

The first event of the French rally championship took place last weekend in Laverune (34), on the occasion of the fourth edition of the Garrigues rally, masterfully organized by the Moto Club of the DRAC…

A total route of nearly 450 kilometers is planned, drawn between sea and mountains, from Pic St Loup to the beach of Aresquiers near the town of Sète (34), which unfortunately, a misty-rainy weather did not allow us to ‘appreciate the charm.

Failing to be able to appreciate the landscape, we discover the superb machines of the forces present such as the magnificent Ducati 1199 Panigale by Franck Coudert, the homologated Yamaha 450 YZF by Benoit Nimis or the superb official Yamaha MT-09 of Team 2B by Julien Toniutti.

The Corsicans do not go unnoticed either with razor sharp pilots on their supercharged single cylinders. We note for example the presence of the Husaberg 570 FS n ° 81 of Yohann Vigilenti, for whom this rally is his first participation, the Honda 450 CRF HM n ° 80 of Luc Deiana or the KTM 350 EXC F n ° 9 of Thierry canazzi.

On the side-cars side, Alain Amblard and his passenger-namesake Olivier are putting their 2013 title in the category at stake at the controls of a new … engine! Indeed, the antique Choda 1100 Kawazaki ZZR hitch puts the cover back.

The Herve Laur / Marie Laure Ferrieu crew are riding their splendid and gleaming Choda KTM RC8 team … It promises a lot of fighting on the sides, no less than ten teams are competing in this opening round of the championship. from France 2014.

Since the Thursday preceding the race, the weather has been rather mild, but the forecast announces the arrival of rain just during the rally … A major concern for the candidates for victory, especially for Corsicans whose Supermotard single cylinders can receive approved rain tires, mandatory label in road rally. Their choice is made: they start with rain tires !

Roadsters (new category in road rally in order to relieve congestion from the overcrowded Topsport category) or other Topsports do not benefit from this advantage. “Street legal” rain tires hardly exist in their dimensions. They must therefore, if necessary, choose a commercial mount the most suitable for driving in the wet….
