Road rallies - The Portugal Moto Tour is canceled! -

A hard blow for the IRC 2008 with the amputation of the Portuguese Moto Tour event … The disappointment is therefore sharp on the side of the pilots, but also among the organizers since it is the promoter who let go. Facts.

The Portugal Moto Tour, a splendid event which was to take place from August 28 to 31 on a clover course around Santarem, north of Lisbon, is canceled… It may be for 2009 !

The promoter of the event – a large group of electricity companies which has already "sponsored" the Dakar in the past – who was responsible for the media and especially the financial part of the event, has in fact decided to There are now three weeks to withdraw from the adventure for reasons officially not communicated.

Suddenly, the National Motorcycling Federation, the main organizer of the Portuguese IRC 2008 event, tried to make ends meet all the same by desperately looking for a substitute because the sporting side of the rally was developed, everything was in place, all you had to do was find something to finance it…

But a last-minute budget search was proving too risky. The cost of such an event not being under the hoof of a horse, the Portuguese Federation has therefore reasonably postponed the race to June 2009. The Portugal Moto Tour 2009, scheduled about a month after the 3rd edition of the Belgian Dark Dog Tour, will be concentrated around the city of Santarèm with two specials on the menu on the Braga and Estoril circuits and another on the Bombarral international karting circuit.

A bad for a good: the Rallye des Volcans, final of the French rally championship 2008, scheduled for August 30 and 31 near Clermont-Ferrand (63), therefore risks filling up !

With the Belgian Dark Dog Tour and the French Dark Dog Tour, the IRC 2008 will therefore only include two events … as in 2007 !

But next year should look better, if we are to believe Marc Fontan, the "boss" of the French Dark Dog Moto Tour, since the 2009 project would be oriented squarely towards a world championship: "five rallies are planned (including Portugal) for a real world championship status, which would make these organizations more credible and would do everyone good", indicates Marc.
