Hidden radars, fluorescent vest and large plates for motorcycles
The Interministerial Road Safety Committee (IRB) held this morning in Paris is going up a notch – so it was still possible! – the government’s policy of blind repression. Details of the measurements. Please note: this is not an exercise…
Removal of radar signs, prohibited radar warnings, fluorescent vest, training after 5 years and large plates for motorcycles…
Among the flagship measures of the Interministerial Committee for Road Safety (IRB) held this morning in Paris under the chairmanship of Prime Minister François Fillon – yet a big fan of speed – the removal of signs indicating the presence of an automatic radar was relatively expected , since the time that the government turned around without ever daring to take the plunge (read in particular and).
Promises are binding only on those who believe in them… |
"The objective is not to trap the motorist but to encourage him to reduce his speed and therefore the risk of accidents", assured the authorities in 2003 during the presentation of the very first automatic radars (read, and)…
By deciding to remove the signs indicating their presence eight years later, the government is coming back – who said once more? – without batting an eyelid on its promises (read our). But faced with so much passivity on the part of French Calves – motorcyclists and motorists alike -, why bother? ? |
More surprisingly, however, the outright ban on speed camera warning devices (so far perfectly legal, unlike detectors) will mark a brutal halt to the flourishing business of brands like Coyote, TomTom, Wikango, etc., which may be able to convert into the fluorescent vest or at least the "retro-reflective equipment" (see below)…
End of speed camera warnings
"Speed camera warnings, which are an incentive to break speed limit rules, will be banned", decided the IRB, while"signs indicating the presence of fixed speed cameras will be removed and speed camera location maps will no longer be made public", because "the information on the positioning of fixed speed cameras indeed encourages some drivers to comply with speed regulations only in their proximity", note these fine observers of French society.
Of course, for good measure, "1,000 new radars will be deployed by the end of 2012, and new-generation mobile radars, making it possible to control the speed of users from vehicles in circulation, or semi-mobile (movable to secure for example construction sites) will be tested this year".
Last year, the UMP deputy of Isère Jacques Remiller invited the government to impose "wearing the life jacket day and night, outside and in built-up areas, for all motorized vehicles without bodywork"(read)… |
Compulsory training after 5 years without a motorcycle
Regarding motorized two-wheelers, which represented "in 2010 around 24% of people killed on the road for less than 2% of traffic", notes the IRB, pretending to forget that a two-wheeler is by nature less protective than a car, a particularly surprising measure should be applied soon:"license plates for motorized two-wheelers will be larger, in order to make checks more efficient".
As for "those who resume the use of a motorcycle after five years of interruption", they will now have to"take training if they have not driven a motorized two-wheeler in the past five years". But of course, those who have not driven a car for 5 years will be able to continue to turn without flashing and dislocate anyhow without further training..
On the way to the fluorescent vest !
Finally, the rotten icing on this already spoiled cake: "riders of motorcycles and tricycles should wear retro-reflective equipment"! Who said fluorescent vest ?
According to our information, the pink ostrich breeders are already in the process of urgently inseminating their herd in order to ensure the supply of a million feathers in anticipation of the next step … To read on the next page: all the IRB measures of May 11, 2011 (sensitive souls abstain).
