Michèle Merli replaces Cecile Petit at Road Safety

Michèle Merli, prefect and secretary general of the Paris Defense Zone, was appointed on Friday in the Council of Ministers interministerial delegate for road safety, on the proposal of Prime Minister François Fillon.
She replaces Cecile Petit, who had been in office since November 22, 2006 (read). Magistrate, first lawyer at the Court of Cassation and former member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, Ms. Petit herself replaced another magistrate, Remy Heitz (read).
The appointment of Michèle Merli, 61, comes in the context of the reorganization of the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Regional Planning (MEEDAT), with the arrival of five new directors : Pierre-Franck Chevet becomes Director General of Energy and Climate, Daniel Bursaux Director General of Infrastructures, Transport and the Sea, Patrick Gandil Director General of Civil Aviation, Jean-Marc Michel Director General of Planning , housing and nature and Laurent Michel director general of risk prevention.
Born in October 1946, Michèle Merli holds a degree in economics. She also holds a degree in political economy from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Internal Security (IHESI) and from the Institute for Advanced National Defense Studies (IHEDN)..
First in charge of mission for the city of Marseille (1968-1971), she then served as chief of staff to the prefect and secretary general for the expansion of the city of Marseille (1971-1974). Then she was director of studies at the urban planning agency of the Marseille agglomeration, in charge of the office of the president of the regional council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (1974-1981), before becoming technical advisor to the president of the PACA regional council (1981-1983).
Deputy prefect, she became chief of staff of the commissioner of the Republic of the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (1983-1984) and was then appointed deputy commissioner of the Republic of the district of Château-Chinon (1984-1985 ), then chief of staff of the prefect of Hauts-de-Seine (1985-1990).
In 1990, it was placed at the disposal of the Prime Minister’s services to the general delegation for the fight against drugs. From 1992 to 1994, she held the position of deputy director of the cabinet of the Paris police prefect, before being entrusted with the general directorate of personnel, budget, equipment and litigation at the police prefecture (1994-1999) , then in the direction of personnel, training and social action at the Ministry of the Interior (1999-2001).
In 2001, having become Prefect, Michèle Merli took up the post of Secretary General of the Paris Defense Zone, before being appointed Interministerial Delegate for Road Safety and Delegate for Road Safety and Traffic at the Ministry of Ecology, of energy, sustainable development and regional planning (MEEDAT) July 11, 2008.
