Road safety - Much noise with the mouth ... -

The States General of road safety which was held yesterday in Paris brought together nearly 800 people, including a large number of ministers. To achieve nothing other than "noise with the mouth", according to the expression of Sarkozy himself…

With no less than five ministers (out of eight planned) and nearly 800 guests from the associative, political, legal, police or medical world, the second General Assembly of road safety had seen the big picture on the theme of "new impetus"from 2005.

The surroundings of the Palais Brongniart (the former Paris Stock Exchange), theater of the great government show, had been conscientiously crisscrossed by the police to accommodate the traditional ballet of the great days: 607 gray, black minivans and unmarked TDM largely occupied the terrain, so much so that parking nearby was almost an impossible task, even on a motorcycle !

Inside, however, neither the three giant screens, nor the simultaneous retransmission from several angles, nor the presentation by Bernard de la Villardière (M6), nor the prestige of the speakers (Nicolas Sarkozy for the interior, Dominique Perben for the transport, Gilles de Robien for National Education, Pascal Clement for justice, Dominique Galouzeau de Villepin for the first of them, etc.) nor the crowded room unfortunately managed to forget the emptiness of the "debates"…

Because apart from a concert of self-satisfaction abundantly repeated by all the speakers – "automatic speed cameras are good, but there aren’t enough", deplored for example" spontaneously "one of the people questioned in a" micro sidewalk "of TF1 level (Robert Namias, deputy CEO of this flagship of the French cultural exception, was also among the speakers under president of the CNSR, read in particular) -, the "debates" did not hatch the slightest beginning of concrete measure which could have made it possible to get out of the rut traced by neuneus stereotypes and sterile shock formulas.

Road assassins

"What is important is that the only fault committed by the victims is to have crossed the road of a murderer on the road.", said in particular by opening the debates Nicolas Sarkozy, past master in the art of obscene formulas, before specifying that"all the rest is noise with the mouth"…

Without realizing that this is precisely what was going to happen all afternoon, the Minister of the Interior did of course not fail to recall his frozen love for automatic radars, so much "back into the mores that they no longer arouse controversy (sic!) and which are even less and less vandalized", rejoiced the favorite of 2007, realizing at the same time"I just have to say that for it to happen again, I shouldn’t have"…

Motorcycle plate checks

So would automatic radars not have become so well established in the past? Nay, the only problem with these blindly suppressing machines is that "bikers still easily slip through the cracks", lamented the unspeakable Sarko, who therefore asked his services to proceed"in the coming weeks" at "license plate compliance control actions to enable better use of infringement photographs".

The goal is of course not to "repress bikers, but to protect them including against themselves", specified the minister, because"let’s not forget that bikers are among the most exposed of road users". So, according to the Ministry of the Interior of the French Republic, motorcycles do not have bodywork and riding a motorcycle would be materially more dangerous than driving a car. Two pieces of information to be taken in the conditional form, but which, we have it. imagine, are already considerably advancing the debates…

The return of daytime running lights

Giving him "dear Nicolas"Do you want some here, his transport counterpart Dominique Perben surreptitiously pulled the daytime running lights out of their oblivion (read our), specifying that the installation of dedicated lights on new cars would promote respect for"daytime ignition that we recommend"…

Only Serge Morelli, president of the insurer AXA Club 14, timidly tried to make a less blind demagogic voice heard by evoking the need to adapt the rules of the road to the specificities of driving a motorcycle: "bikers as a whole are not against the rules and they would not be against repression as long as the specific place of the motorcycle in the flow of traffic is taken into account", he notably recalled.

A thinly veiled allusion to the need to be able to move reasonably between the lines and in the bus lanes, or to be able to park on the sidewalks in a non-intrusive way, but brushed aside as it should for non-compliance with the unique thought of this turn of the century: you (bikers, motorists, citizens …) are grown-ups. You don’t know what’s good for you, so let us do your good !

"100 horses is crazy"

Trying to clarify that "in all categories of users, there is always 10% of marginal behavior we are talking about"but which are not significant, Serge Morelli was sent back to his ropes by the unshakeable Geneviève Jurgensen, steeped in distressing certainties and sterile good feelings towards the victims of the road:"the dangerousness is linked to the power", she suddenly proclaimed, believing that"100 horses, it’s crazy"and ensuring that"pedestrians suffer from the presence of bikers, who kill more than they should"… Bigre !

Visibly delusional, the spokesperson for the League against road violence then openly criticized TF1 for having "broadcast Taxi in the middle of road safety week! It’s as if we were passing Feast during world hunger week !", she was – seriously! – indignant … When will the ban on Crisis in video clubs during a period of unemployment ?

His unavoidable friend Professor Got, "expert" in road safety for the last century, for his part regretted the time when one could "have fun with motorcycles of 9 horses: today we go up to 100 horses but with death"he learnedly underlined, recalling that the principal"handicap"(sic) bikers,"it’s their lack of protection"…

Struggling to hide the intense joy that animates him at the sight of an automatic radar hidden in the bushes, Claude Got then felt that we had "never seen the Republic work so well"(sic!) that during the installation of the automated sanction control. Free and compulsory school for all, secularism, the right to vote, social security? So many dusty trifles which would have been advantageously replaced by a series of Brand new automatic radars and high-tech CCTV cameras !

"Training should not be done at the expense of repression because radars have shown their effectiveness", also declared Bernard Pottier, president of the Road Prevention (sic!), who asks"one hour per month of training, from Kindergarten to Terminale, with a referent teacher as suggested by Gilles de Robien"…

Four hours later, the debates ended as they had begun: concluding as tradition dictates an afternoon he had not attended, Prime Minister Dominique Galouzeau de Villepin listed one or two banalities of good quality. under a cloud of flashes.

Everyone then set out again camped on their positions, which in the metro which in official 607, without the slightest beginning to advance off the beaten track of all-out repression, excessive guilt and sticky good feelings, for example by empowering once and for all all road users, has not been considered for a second…

Was it really necessary to move all these beautiful people to repeat to their disgust that "speed is bad, radars are good"? Next time, a small advertising insert in Paris Boom Boom or other local free would be sufficient! Finally, ride in peace, citizens: the government, victims’ associations and TF1 are watching over you…
