Remy Heitz rides a motorcycle !
The interministerial delegate for road safety, Remy Heitz, accepted the invitation of our colleague from Moto Journal: take a tour as a passenger in order to see for himself the specificities of motorcycle traffic.. Story.
Once upon a time, in a basement of the Grande Arche de la Defense, headquarters of the Road Safety Directorate at the Ministry of Equipment, an interministerial delegate who received journalists for a press breakfast.
On the menu: coffee, pastries, fruit juice and speed, the latter being, according to the results of a study on biker accidents, responsible for all the ills of the earth (read).
Remy Heitz readily lent himself to questions from journalists and the speed was, as it should be in this kind of communication operation, carefully vilified thanks to numerous curves, stats, figures and other graphs which have the pleasant characteristic of saying exactly what we want them to say.
Suddenly questioned about the specificity of motorcycle driving, which means that we learn in motorcycle schools to drive slightly above the speed of the traffic flow, Remy Heitz admitted his shortcomings in the matter but asked for better understand…
Seizing the ball on the leap, our colleague from Motorcycle Journal He then immediately offered to take him for a ride, so that he could realize for himself how dangerous it is for a biker to blindly respect the limitations. "Banco !", replied in substance the interministerial delegate, certainly a little trapped in the heat of the action by the sequence of questions and answers, but also showing good faith and a sincere concern for understanding not so frequent…
An appointment was therefore made and it was last Saturday that Remy Heitz, duly equipped, helmeted and intercomised to be able to collect his impressions on the spot, took his place in the back of a GSX 1400 driven by our eminent colleague Michaël Levivier…
"You lean a lot in roundabouts !", exclaims the delegate at the first stop."You speak, I was almost at a standstill in the roundabouts !", Michaël will tell us later:"I was super careful with everything, the traces of diesel, the speed limits, the odometer, the intersections, everything! We even found ourselves at 50 km / h on the four-lane La Defense !"
A little further on, while he dares to offer her a little tip, the answer is clear: "oh no, it’s going well fast enough for me !". After a while, however, the delegate takes the plunge:"if you want you can speed up to show me"…
Gaaaaaz? The sequel to Mr. Heitz’s adventures in this week’s GM, on sale somewhere near you.
Eric MICHEL
