Suzuki France’s four measures for road safety
Suzuki France presented this morning in Paris four measures aimed at improving the safety of its customers, whether they are daily 125 scooter users or thrill seekers riding a Hayabusa 1340… Explanations.
Haruo Ito, president of Suzuki France, arrived a year and a half ago at the head of the French subsidiary. Six months after his appointment, his country was hit by a violent tsunami that caused – among other things – the Fukushima disaster … "More than 19,000 Japanese lost their lives in hours", he recalls today.
"I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart the French bikers who actively supported the Japanese people, many of whom still suffer and find it difficult to project themselves into the future.", continues the Japanese big boss.
It was when I recently saw a report on television, "in which a Japanese woman explained to us what her life had become since the death of her parents and two of her children", that the head of Suzuki France would really"measured the importance of health and life".
Ito San is deeply marked … but far from being resigned: as the representative of the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in France (12% of PDM over the last ten years, he assures), he even decides to invest its mark in the protection of "a" human race: the users of motorized two-wheelers.
"There is probably a link between the trauma we Japanese have experienced and our fierce desire to preserve the physical integrity of the bikers who share our passion for motorcycles.", testifies the Japanese president.
Backbone for everyone !
In reality, the four measures proposed by Suzuki France are not limited to motorcycle enthusiasts alone, but to all users of the brand’s motorcycles..
Ducati too… |
Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – remember that in July 2009, Ducati congratulated itself – and rightly so – for having offered in less than a year, including 1600 in France. Today, it is the generalist Suzuki who is embarking on this salutary path. We can bet that other manufacturers will quickly take the wheel ! |
The first measure concerns all future buyers of Suzuki scooters and motorcycles: "from next Thursday (March 29 and until the end of 2012, editor’s note), each customer will automatically receive the latest generation back protector", explains Suzuki France.
By studying the statistics of the Road Safety and Traffic Delegation (DSCR) Suzuki notes that " 44% of the most serious or even fatal injuries result from a shock to the head, 4% to the lower limbs and 50% to the trunk including the spine".
Hence the idea of this back protector developed in collaboration with Furygan, a brand chosen among many others because the "Panther" benefits from both a solid experience in the protection of the biker – more than 40 years! – and offers the famous D3O technology.
"The mixture of polymer and dilating liquid allows us to create products that are thinner, more comfortable and more efficient than those made of plastic.", specifies Jean-Marc Autheman, Marketing Director of Furygan.
For the French supplier, Suzuki’s specifications were clear: to offer its customers a duly approved back protector (read), flexible, discreet and usable on a daily basis so that it does not join the exercise bike at the back of the garage. , the Chinese steam pressure cooker or any other highly essential consumer good…
"This desire for the best compromise between protection and discretion is intended, among other things, to also protect our mainly urban "Scooters 125" customers, as well as women who represent 10% of Suzuki buyers.", insists the sales director of Suzuki France, François Etterle.
And 200 € for the youngsters
"We are currently counting on 13,000 pieces", informs us in passing the person in charge of Furygan. Note also that the backbone will also be on sale in the Suz ‘concessions at the rate of 100 euros.
The second measure taken by Suzuki France, which happens to be an extension of the first, stems from a second observation made from road safety statistics: "the risk of an accident, serious or fatal, is increased tenfold during the first year after obtaining the permit".
For the purchase of a Gladius 650 – "the most purchased Suzuki by the new licenses"-, holders of an A license of less than one year will receive, in addition to the backbone, a voucher of € 200"so that they complete their safety equipment (helmets, boots and gloves, for example) at their dealership".
The third measure this time concerns all bikers and scooter riders, whether young or old, supporters of the Yellows, Greens, Reds or Blues (Oranges, Blacks, etc.): "because it is obvious that mastering a motorcycle requires dexterity and experience", Suzuki is committed to offering as many people as possible the opportunity to improve their skills by driving on the circuit with state-certified instructors".
Improvement and controls
This proposal is not new in the motorcycle world – or even for Suzuki – but it deserves to be noted. "On April 14 and 15 for example, as part of the Bol d’Or, on the Magny-Cours School Circuit, a large part of the Suzuki range will be made available with equipment and, of course, backpacks.".
"This same operation organized last year enabled 528 tests to be carried out … without the slightest fall to report !", testifies the commercial director of Suzuki France."Other test dates will be scheduled this year, in particular thanks to the Suz demo Tour which starts on March 31 in Lille (59)".
Finally, the last measure is to offer free verification of 21 safety points on all Suzuki, whatever their age and mileage: a "technical control" that the manufacturer had already proposed in early 2010..
"This check-up will be carried out in the 215 Suzuki dealerships in France during the months of October and November 2012 this time, when the activity in the workshops is quieter and customers can leave their vehicle with us more easily.".
"We sincerely believe that these four measures will play an active role in the safety of our customers and thus contribute to improving accident figures in France.", conclude the officials of Suzuki France."There is a way today to trade our passion, but this business must be responsible". Of which act.
