The sportsman of the Adventure family

With the successive births of and in 2011, then of last year, the Tiger 1050 had gone from being a vulnerable species to that of a critically endangered animal. No one thought that this model would die out in 2013 … But it was very bad to know the Tiger !

Dispossessed by its fellows of a large part of its hunting territory – with the Tiger 800 the cities and the paths, with the Explorer the long courses -, the Tiger 1050 has decided to fight to defend its niche: that of sports tourism..

According to Simon Warburton, product manager at Triumph, the Tiger Sport still belongs to the "Adventure" family: "its strengths relate to both Sport and Touring, but its program remains focused on Adventure Sport", analyzes the Briton.

According to him, the valuable customer feedback would be formal: the Tiger 1050 is appreciated by its experienced owners (average age of 47.5 years) for its upright driving position, the handling of its chassis, its efficient brakes and its adjustable suspensions. Here is for the dimension "Sport".

Regarding the "Touring" part, the daily comfort, the ability to duo and to ride loaded as well as the good protection against bad weather would be the advantages most popular with these tamers of "tigers".

Finally, an asset common to both spheres: the 1050 cc 3-cylinder inherited from the Speed Triple would offer this Tiger extraordinary character on the one hand, high torque and good power on the other. Born in 2007 and slightly revised in 2012, the Tiger 1050 needed to change to ensure its survival.

"What promised to be a simple update has turned into a major overhaul", continues Mister Warburton."We knew we could improve handling, performance, ergonomics, styling and more.", summarizes the big boss of Hinckley products.

The evolutions between the Tiger 1050 and the Tiger Sport are therefore very numerous … and are already known to Site readers who, as everyone knows, have a little more luck than the others (read our).

Invited by Triumph to test their eighth (!) Novelty 2013 in the beautiful region of Barcelona, MNC was able to see firsthand the progress made in terms of aesthetics: the Tiger Sport is particularly well licked. !

The element that instantly catches the attention is its rear end: the muscular look of the single-sided arm on the left and the design of the rim on the right will undoubtedly make owners of old versions of the Tiger 1050 salivate..

Not as "light" as that of the last Speed Triple, the rear wheel of the Tiger Sport – with red piping, please! – is all the same particularly successful and considerably lightens the look of the motorcycle … but this is only an impression.

"The old rear axle with double arms was a little lighter, because the parts necessary for the assembly of the single-sided arm are heavier. But the result is magnificent and the efficiency at the rendezvous", assures us Felipe Lopez, development pilot at Triumph.
