MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR test: adorable gaRce…
Two new 2015 models come to head the 3-cylinder series at MV Agusta: the Brutale 800 RR and its Dragster 800 RR version. Site participated in their press presentation in Italy and in “ full ”. Here is the test of the roadsteRRrr…
THE MARRAINS OF THE Tre Pistoni clan…
Admittedly, the Brutale 800 RR does not have the most powerful 3-cylinder of Varese production: the latter quite logically comes back to the sportswoman of the band, the F3 800, whose engine spits 148 horsepower in the free world (read our).

MV Agusta Managing Director Giovanni Castiglioni is nonetheless adamant: "this new Brutale and its Dragster version are the icons of our 3-cylinder range". The owners of the pistarde must get used to it: the F3 800 no longer manages the" Tre Pistoni "family….
Previously reserved for 4-cylinders, the "double R" makes its appearance in 3-cylinders: like the luxurious Brutale 1090 RR and F4RR, the Brutale 800 RR and the Dragster 800 RR therefore represent the very best. at MV, both in aesthetic and mechanical terms (read our technical point on the next page).
As a result, we could have expected MV Agusta to show us his new (top) models on the magnificent Mugello circuit, or on sumptuous roads unearthed in his native Lombardy. Instead, the Italian brand seems to have deliberately chosen to put them to the test…
By selecting copiously dented small Italian roads to form the bulk of the route for this press launch, MV has clearly not spared its new motorcycles – nor the journalists! Riding the Brutale 800 RR, Site takes it all in the face and buttocks … but wanting more !
No need to beat around the bush – and its three pretty little outings: this new transalpine roadster is one of the most impressive that Site has ridden in its 15 years of existence … Although of lower displacement, this Brutale does not is reminiscent of the impactful Moto Morini.
Particularly short (1380 mm of wheelbase), incredibly light (168 kg dry) and devilishly powerful (140 hp), the Brutale 800 RR demands solid experience and unflappable self-control – with its right wrist, above all – because this bitch is only looking for one thing: to make you climb trees !
Be careful, its handling is not random, on the contrary. MNC has only one negative criticism to make on this subject: the hydraulics of the Sachs rear shock absorber are a little too open in "factory setting" to withstand the onslaught of all the cavalry in the exits. bumpy curves.
The observation is striking on the particularly bumpy portion of road that MV Agusta selected for our first photo shoot: while MNC forces itself to maintain a semblance of rhythm in front of the photographers, the Brutale 800 RR throws in the towel – the rear wheel and its pilot – outside the planned trajectory.
Bouncing too long on the coarse fittings and other deformations of the tarmac, the rear end of our bike would undoubtedly have deserved a few "clicks" (shock absorber and fork are fully adjustable) to get out of this perilous exercise more honorably.
On a better surface this time, the rear axle follows the front axle meticulously, whether at the start, in the middle or at the end of the curve. It is this remarkable homogeneity that allowed us to drive fast – much too fast – on the way back, made up of beautiful fast curves..
Whatever the state of the road, the three silencers – which only have "silencers" in name! – howl their new exhaust tubes shatter. And as if that were not enough, their vociferations are joined from 8000 rpm by a deep rattle emanating from the new air box..
Exhilarating for the owner and impressive for fellow travelers, the soundtrack of the "Double R" is likely to be drunk, even embarrassing on a daily basis. Transalpine engineers would do well to work on a mute – an electronic valve with handlebar control ?! – to make this motorcycle more discreet in the city center…
Already very muscular from 4000 rpm, the accelerations on the last third of the digital tachometer (as illegible as the other data of the meter, except the speed and the engaged gear indicator) are however magnified. Getting the gears to the max is as tempting as it is risky, especially on the tiny roads that Site traverses at the start of the journey..
It only takes a slight overhang or a small bump for the front of the Brutale to leave the ground momentarily: thrills guaranteed on the first three gears when you open the throttle wide between the "pif" and " paf "of a lively sequence…
To prevent steering, a steering damper is fitted as standard. Manually adjustable, it was almost fully tightened by MV Agusta mechanics. Twice, Site felt the handlebars start to bounce and then calm down. On the other hand, the management never seemed heavy to us: a good point therefore.
