MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR test: good, bad and ugly at the same time
Like the Brutale 800, the Dragster 800 was available in 2015 in an RR version that Site was able to test on the – more or less – beautiful roads of Tuscany. Modeled on the roadster, MV Agusta’s spaghetti muscle bike has us… transferred! Test.
MV Agusta creates surprises…
The "short" Dragster 800 was a surprise for two reasons. First because this motorcycle was launched at the beginning of the year (2014, for those who will come across this article in the year 3000) when no one had seen it coming, not even the transalpine journalists and their paparazzi colleagues. (read our)…

Like a boomerang, this new model also sounded MV Agusta: "we did not expect such commercial success", assures us the boss of the brand of Varese, Giovanni Castiglioni:"we have sold more than 2000 copies worldwide, four times more than initially expected !".
It is therefore logical that this model – accounting for almost a quarter of global sales of MV Agusta! – benefits from an RR version at the same time as its twin sister, the Brutale 800 (read our). Site therefore tested it over a few kilometers…
With its truncated rear part which still incorporates the two "Rivale-style" brake lights, the Dragster 800 RR attracts even more attention than its brother Brutale 800 RR does and its tight little ass topped by a single and thin LED light.
Aesthetically, the Dragster RR stands out from the base version – and the rest of the production MV! – thanks to unprecedented spoke rims, to say the least surprising! "Above all, do not see the fantasy of customers but rather, how to put it? Creative research, the designer’s delirium !"says Brian Gillen, chief engineer at MV Agusta..
"Did you see, it’s Kineo !"is ecstatic at the same time one of our colleagues from the motorcycle press invited to the launch of the two" double R "in the sublime region of Siena (Italy)."It’s crazy, it’s the first time that I see it in real life !". And his enthusiasm is understandable as the rims – especially the rear one – give the bike a devastating look….
In the red and white color, however, you have to assume the white wheels … and their maintenance, without which the color of the rear wheel will quickly turn to gray speckled with grease … This does not prevent new stiffness and its wide Pirelli Diablo Rosso II (200/50, see technical sheet on page 4), the 6-inch rear rim imposes it. And she is – unfortunately – not the only one !
The mirrors, identical to those of the standard Dragster or the Rivale, are attached to each end of the handlebars and increase copiously – and stupidly – the width of the motorcycle (825 mm for the Dragster, 725 for the Brutale!). This is likely to annoy urban bikers during the ascents of endless lines…
Future buyers will also no doubt be angry at the need to readjust, oneself and tearfully, the cables and connectors that protrude here and there: on the tubular section of the chassis for example, or just behind the clutch lever..
Concerned about the smallest detail, these same customers will have to plan a black tape budget to hide on the left side of the engine a few yellow wires covered with sheaths … too short! By displaying his motorcycle at 16,500 euros, MV Agusta passes for a bit of a mobster: at this price these final alterations could be carried out at the factory, no ?
By starting the engine however, all these aesthetic and financial considerations are shattered thanks to the song of the three tiny bawling silencers! With the version of the "Tre Pistoni" mounted on the Brutale 800 RR (read our), the rider is in a hurry: let go of his 140 horsepower and 86 Nm !
