Z900 RS 2018: the retro Kawasaki Z is being talked about again …
The Japanese motorcycle press is convinced: Kawasaki will present this fall a new retro roadster based on the Z900. This long-awaited 2018 Z900RS could delight lovers of old recipes enhanced by modern flavors.
Making a retro motorcycle from a "Zed", the idea is not new at Kawasaki… The first stages of this project even go back to (!), When the brand unveiled in Milan (Italy) one to celebrate the . This "old school" Z1000 (on the left below) made more than one drool with its round headlight, its flat saddle, its water drop tank and its pretty superimposed exhausts.

But while the "Vintage" segment was nevertheless booming, Akashi’s crest did not transform the test, leaving others to hit the jackpot with similar initiatives: first BMW with its R Nine T, then Ducati with his Scrambler. The Green brand was perhaps too busy to follow new paths, some very engaging like its spectacular H2 with compressed engine, others less exciting like its scooters in partnership with Kymco …
However, this “retro Zed” project has never been abandoned, as the “Z900 Super Four” concept will recall in 2016 (right above). The opportunity to learn that the name "Z900RS" has even been registered in the United States, logically suggesting that it will be marketed in 2017 … Except that in fact, no: still missed! No retro among the latest Kawasaki novelties, despite the retirement of the venerable W800 due to lack of compatibility with Euro4 standards !
The Z900RS is coming. Yes Yes !
That the amateurs consumed by this long wait put away their handkerchief: this Z900RS will make its appearance in 2018 according to the information of our Japanese colleagues (assembly below)! It will take the allure of the roadsters of yesteryear (flat saddle, round headlight, double exhausts… like the prototype of 2012!), All energized by the Z900 platform and its tasty 4-cylinder engine of 125 hp. Building this project from the Z900 is all the more relevant as its tubular frame combines well with the retro spirit, while its displacement echoes the initiator of the "Z" range: the Z1 from 1972.
If Kawasaki decides – finally – to take the plunge, this Z900RS should look good on the catwalks at the next fall shows. Hoping that hopes will be well and truly rewarded this time !
