San Marino GP Qualifiers: Viñales leads a Yamaha quartet with a record pole !

This new Yamaha quartet is led by Maverick Viñales, author of an impressive 1’31.411 in his last launched lap! The Spaniard dislodges Franco Morbidelli in extremis, who seemed to be heading for pole thanks to his turn in 1’31.723 signed under the checkered flag.
But that was without counting on "Mack", who waited until the very last moments to place his "freediving" turn without another pilot nearby. Delighted with his performance, Viñales happily expresses his satisfaction with such playful gestures … that he accidentally triggers his airbag! This is his second pole after that of the Austrian GP, his 12th in MotoGP.
The Spaniard can indeed have a smile since he obviously has the speed and an excellent pace for the race: his simulations on worn tires during free practice were particularly consistent on Friday. It remains to materialize in the race, which is too often his Achile’s heel…
Viñales faster than the less active Lorenzo
Another reason for satisfaction: Viñales drops the absolute record held in Misano since 2018 by Jorge Lorenzo in 1’31.629. The two tenths won by the n ° 12 are all the more significant as many pilots complain about the many bumps on the asphalt of the circuit, yet recently surfaced. !
