This new C400 GT (for "Gran Turismo") has distinct – even sharp – lines, especially at the level of its spectacular front end which is reminiscent of the "manga" universe (on) exploited by Kawasaki on its series Z. The LED optical unit overhangs turn signals in the form of vertical rows of diodes, as on the opulent K1600 roadways.
The main differences with the C400 X – from which it takes over the 350 cc single-cylinder and all the chassis – are mainly due to the trim with a thicker saddle with separate backrest and wide grab handles, the passenger footboards (the X only offers footrests), storage compartments in the apron and high screen.
This 34 hp and 35 Nm scooter also offers equipment and practical aspects in line with its GT vocation such as a 12V socket, a complete LCD screen next to a needle indicating the speed, traction control and the clever space of Flexcase storage, which comes in the form of a flexible "pocket" which can be deployed (only when stationary) to accommodate a helmet.
This C400 GT – camped on 15 and 14-inch wheels and braked at the front by robust 4-piston calipers – also receives the BMW hands-free system as standard, which eliminates the need for a key to start the scooter but also lock your saddle, tank and storage spaces.
The heated grips and saddles as well as more elaborate color TFT matrix instrumentation are optional on this 212 kg scooter, or 8 kg more than the C400 X. A little high weight compared to the displacement, but in the "standard" of the 400 cc: 210 kg for the and 215 for the .
This new C400 GT will be available during the first quarter of 2019 at a price of 7,965 euros. Recall that the C400 scooters are developed by BMW but built in the Chinese factory in Loncin, a strategy already followed by the propeller brand for its C650s assembled in Taiwan by Kymco and its G310 motorcycles built in India by TVS.
