BMW dominates the 2015 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix
The three British riders Peter Hickman, Martin Jessopp and Michael Rutter climbed in that order on the podium of the 49th Macau GP on Saturday riding their BMW S1000RRs. Relive the full video race in the heart of gaming hell.
Largely dominated this year by the official ZX-10R, Panigale and RSV4 in, the new S1000RR (read our) offered a historic treble on the occasion of the 62nd Macao Grand Prix (the 49th in motorcycles), contested last Saturday.
Author of pole, Martin Jessopp (n ° 40 BMW Riders Motorcyles) relied on his soft tires to widen the gap at the start of the race and then manage the return of his main rivals: Peter Hickman (n ° 60 BMW Brigs Equipment) and Michael Rutter (n ° 7 BMW Penz13.com) who accompanied him on the first row of the Chinese grid.
But the Machiavellian plan of Mister Jessopp failed, the fault of his compatriot Hickman, more enduring than him at the controls of his own S1000RR … which he will however abandon next year in British Superbike in favor of a !
"We all knew from practice and qualifying that Martin was really strong", admitted Peter at the end of the race,"and honestly the pace he had seemed way too high for everyone".
"I expected him to pull away on the first five or six laps, but then hoped I could get back on him", reveals Hickman."I told myself I just had to be clean, avoid making mistakes and be as quick as possible".
Raised alone in the rear wheel of the leader at halfway – as expected! -, Hickman delivered the decisive blow in the ninth lap (out of 12) under braking Lisboa and won his first victory at the Macao GP … in only two participations !
Eight times winner on the former Portuguese lands, Rutter completes this 100% British podium from a "pilots" point of view … but 100% German in terms of motorcycles and 100% Japanese in terms of helmets (full box for Shoei too!).
The formidable tuck shot of the private S1000RRs is completed by Gary Johnson (No.5 BMW Penz13.com) who finished in fifth position, one second behind the legendary John McGuinness (No.4 Honda Racing) and half a second ahead (no. 9 Kawasaki Paul Bird).
