Sport - Jacques Bolle wants to bring the FFM closer to its licensees -

With 8 world titles and 52 international podiums, the FFM was proud this morning to reward its drivers for these exceptional results. Its new president, Jacques Bolle, took the opportunity to unveil his priorities. Video interview.

Jacques Bolle chaired this morning in Paris, in the premises of the Automobile Club de France, his first traditional end-of-season meeting, during the annual press conference of the FFM. It was in a rather warm atmosphere that the assembly congratulated the results of the French pilots: in terms of competition, 2008 was indeed an exceptional year in terms of sporting results with 4 world titles and 52 international podiums, hoisting France at the top of the list of nations (read "2008 sports report: 8 world titles and 10 European titles for French bikers").

Noise and smell…

The former president of the FFM, Jean-Pierre Mougin – who exercised his mandate for 19 years -, today n ° 2 of the FIM (first vice-president), is responsible for a commission to fight against noise . On some circuits, the noise reaches "unbearable levels", he believes, especially in speed with"levels of 130 decibels, but we come up against the promoters who must be convinced that it is bad for the future of the discipline".

"The priority is enduro and motocross where we sometimes approach 100 dB", continues Mr. Mougin,"because it is not so much the MotoGP world championship that is targeted, but the regional leagues competitions which annoy local residents".

In 2010, a new noise measurement method should be applied on enduro and motocross circuits, the "method"2 meters max", with a refusal of non-compliant machines from 2013. In addition, the FIM is working on exhausts that cannot be dismantled or modified.

"The noise and the smell belong to the bike, but sometimes it’s not tolerable anymore", confirmed the new president of the FFM, Jacques Bolle, who will respond live to questions from Internet users during a Site chat, Tuesday November 25 at 6:00 p.m..

Jacques Bolle praised the work carried out by his predecessor Jean-Pierre Mougin during his 19 years of presidency, newly appointed 1st vice-president of the Federation internationale de motocyclisme (FIM). On many points, the two men appeared to be complementary with common concerns, in particular on the question of the noise level of motorcycles and the efforts to be made (see box opposite).

Invited to speak, Jean-Pierre Mougin specified that he would keep one foot in the FFM, with an advisory role for international sporting issues and an active part in the technical college..

At the outset and to put an end to all rumors, Jacques Bolle clarified that since the 2001 finance law, members of the offices of the most important associations have the right to be compensated for their presence and their work. He can thus devote all his time to the FFM and fulfill his mission 100%.

"To be close to the licensees"

Unlike Jean-Pierre Mougin, Jacques Bolle claims to have "no international ambition"by wishing to be close to the concerns of the lambdas licensees. For the new president, the FFM must"take care of practitioners as a whole and not just the elite sports, which only represents 5% of the number of licensees".

To continue to develop the number of licensees, Jacques Bolle wishes in particular to increase the offer of competition at both regional and national level, "the more events there are, the more licensees there will be"."The Federation is not intended to organize sporting events", he recalled, considering that"it is the clubs that are at the heart of the offer". He therefore wishes to support them in their initiatives by going so far as to suppress the sometimes prohibitive sports rights, as he did within the Ile-de-France League from which he came (it was Fernand Dieudonne who will replace as president of this league as of January 2009).

Noting that 90 motorcycle riders appear on the ministerial list of high-level athletes, Jacques Bolle confirms the FFM’s desire to continue the work of training courses leading to competition, even if this represents a significant cost.

Asked about the FFM’s action to improve the image of motorcycles, the new president did not hesitate to reaffirm his opposition to the "motophobia"(read), while noting that motorcycling sport was not ignored in high places:"Mike di Meglio was congratulated in person by François Fillon and Bernard Laporte", he said.

For Jacques Bolle, it is useless to compare France with Italy or Spain, a country where motorsports are very popular. In an attempt to improve the image of motorcycles, the FFM is working with the Chambre Syndicale de l’Automobile et du Motocycle (CSIAM).

Lobbying actions

Due to a very poor loss experience for two-wheelers, "the motorcycle is the black sheep for road safety", said Jacques Bolle, recalling that on this difficult subject, the FFM had a mission of delegate for sport and not for public security. As such, like the FFMC with which it is"not agree on everything but share some of his positions", the FFM cannot lead"than a lobbying action".

A rider himself, Jacques Bolle understands perfectly well that at 20 a biker wants "to open wide"and wishes to respond to this state of affairs by proposing alternatives: the FFM must"further develop access to circuits and open days on speed circuits".

"Opening circuits is no longer financial madness"

In this context, Jacques Bolle underlines that the opening of circuits is no longer "financial madness", but that on the contrary such projects are now"economically relevant". He also assured Jean-Pierre Beltoise of his support for the creation of a complete motor sports center at Sarcelle (93), rather than the Val d´Europe project which would only have hosted Formula 1.

In the field of sporting novelties, the FFM has obtained the power to decide on the minimum age to participate in motorcycle competitions, while for more than 20 years the sporting regulations had to respect the highway code and age restrictions. It was therefore necessary to wait 14 years to be able to drive a 125 cc and 12 years to participate in a competition. From 2009, sports regulations will be modified.

Meet on Tuesday November 25 at 6:00 p.m. !

The French Superbike Championship was "a success in its current form", added Bolle. As for the possible increase in the number of events, he said he was"not convinced of a positive impact"From experience, he puts the ideal number of events from a championship to"7 or 8, because beyond participation becomes more difficult for many competitors".
