Philippe Tonin is killed on the Transorientale
Philippe Tonin, originally from Vinsobres, near Nyons (26), was killed this morning between Qaratubak and Torgai, in Kazakhstan, while taking part in the Transorientale on the handlebars of his KTM 525 EXC n ° 42. He had just turned 49…
Accustomed to rally raids as an amateur driver (Pharaons Rally 2007, Dakar 2007, registration for Dakar 2008, etc.), Philippe Tonin died this morning in the Kazakh steppes, during a collision between his KTM n ° 42 and the truck n ° 401 of another competitor of the Transorientale, a rally raid cars, motorcycles, quads and trucks which connects Saint-Petersburg (Russia) to Beijing (China) from June 12 to 28.
"This morning, at 12:09 local time (08:09 French time), at kilometer 120 of the special n ° 6 rallying Qaratubak to Torgai, a shock occurred between the French biker Philippe Tonin and the truck n ° 401 of Team Kamaz", indicates the organization, specifying that"the death of Philippe Tonin was noted by the medical teams present on site a few minutes after the tragedy".
Philippe’s body was transported by helicopter from the scene of the accident, at kilometer 120 of the 6th special between Qaratubak and Torgai, in Arkalik from where it will be transferred by plane to the Astana hospital (Kazakhstan ).
Aged 49, Philippe Tonin was co-manager of Tonin SARL (climatic and sanitary engineering) and of Tonin Distribution (distribution of spas, saunas and hammams and manufacture of Tonisol solar collectors).
