ZX-25R: Kawasaki launches its new Ninja 250 4-cylinder … in Indonesia
Scrutinized for several months by fans of small but true sports motorcycles, the Kawasaki ZX-25R finally arrives … in the Far East, where it is produced! Will we see the Ninja with 4-cylinder 250 cc and 51 hp unloading soon in our regions?. Mystery and tire balls…
No, it’s not a 2.5-liter Ninja … The ZX-25R is a tiny sister to the ZX-10R, which shares with the five-time Superbike World Champion much more than a family resemblance and a Replica livery (green-black-gold) worn on machines n ° 1 and 22 in WorldSBK.
Unveiled at the last Tokyo Motor Show (Japan), this new sporty 250 cc hides under its fairing a 16-valve 4-cylinder which we knew that each 50 mm diameter piston could move at a frantic pace on its 31, 8mm stroke: engine speed can peak at 17,000 rpm !

Kawasaki has just announced that this small – but beefy – engine produces 51 hp at 15,500 rpm. Impressive power given the 45 horsepower produced by the twin cylinder of the Ninja 400, in order to integrate the European category of A2 motorcycles (35 kW maximum as a reminder).
The "two-and-a-half" is also more sporty by equipping itself with a 37 mm Showa SFF-BP inverted fork and a Back-Link type shock absorber, while the "Quatre-sans" is satisfied with a traditional 41 mm fork and a Uni-track rear linkage. The pistards regret on one as on the other, the only adjustment in preload of the shock absorber.
The Ninja 400 has, however, one asset (master?) In its game: its weight of 168 kg fully loaded. The latest "Made in Thailand" carries a liter of more gasoline certainly (15 Vs 14 l) but that does not justify its higher weight, of 182 kg.
When it comes to braking, the ZX-25R imposes more with its radial-mounted caliper. What to do with the brake on the lighter Ninja 400? We would like to be able to test the 2020 novelty, as the privileged Jonathan Rea was able to do this winter in Jerez (see the video below). Or better, compare the two mini sports !
Side on-board technologies, the little Ninja is full: limited slip clutch (like the 400), quickshifter, traction control and engine modes. Even an odd indicator of economical driving is part of the standard equipment. In Indonesia where it is marketed, ABS is optional.
Last data and not the least: the price of the ZX-25R is established in Jakarta at 112.9 million rupees, or 6,699 of our euros. For comparison and according to the Indonesian official website still, the ZX-10R appears at 29,199 euros and the ZX-6R at 18,739 euros … but the Versys-X 250 at only 3,779 euros and the mini Z125 at 2019 euro !
