The Metzeler M7 RR puts the rubber on the roads
Metzeler offers a new Supersport motorcycle tire: the M7 RR, designed to offer optimal performance to riders who ride hard on all types of road. A bit like Guy Martin, racing driver … on roads precisely ! Presentation.
Metzeler presents its new M7 RR motorcycle tire
Here is the latest addition to the Sportec family: after the M1, M3 and M5, make way for the M7 RR! With two "R" for "Road Racing" or road races in English, allows itself to insist Metzeler. Because like its descendants, this new Supersport tire is intended for a 100% road program.
"Born for road use, it has its origins in "Road Racing" competitions where you can find all the more or less extreme situations that bikers encounter every day.", however, underline the Germans.
Absent from the flagship single-brand speed championships (MotoGP and Moto2, World Superbike and Supersport), Metzeler legitimizes its expertise in the sports field thanks to the results of its riders entered in the equally prestigious Tourist Trophy, but also in the North West 200, Southern 100, Ulster Grand Prix and Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.
"Competitions where the Metzeler brand reached the podium 17 times last year", congratulate the heirs of Robert Friedrich (Metzeler),"by winning ten first places and sponsoring and closely following pilots such as Guy Martin".
It is with this appreciated English pilot – but also with the appreciable Alastair Seeley and James Hillier, official Metzeller pilots as well – that the brand at the Elephant has developed its M7 RR which differs from the in many ways.
First of all, the tread, of which "the arrangement of the grooves has been designed to offer dry grip and at the same time guarantee water drainage and excellent cornering stability with the clear objective of achieving a sporty driving style maintained as well on roads wet than dirty".
Compared to the previous Sportec, the notching rate has been refined: "increased from 12.6% to 14.7% at the front and decreased from 12.6% to 11.1% at the rear because the front tire plays a key role in water drainage", says the manufacturer.
Classified highly confidential, the rubber folder is barely ajar: Site just knows that the – mono – rubber before is "based on a 100% silica compound". The rear tire becomes" bigomme "and has the same type of compound on the sidewalls in order to provide maximum grip, in the wet as in the dry.
In the center of the tread, on the other hand (20% of the tire, or approximately 45 mm), the silica content is reduced to 70%. It is in fact the same compound as that which lines the carcass: harder, it offers stability and precision whatever the angle of camber, and increases the longevity of the tire in vertical position..
According to their calculations, the M7 RR would also be able to cover 20% more distance than its predecessor M5. MNC readers are invited to indicate the mileage reached with their pair of "old" Metzeler !
Derived from those used by Guy, Alastair and James in competition, the profile of the new sports tire is 3 mm higher than the M5 which reproduced the Greek letter "Pi". The new design should improve both damping, quicker angle setting and full-angle grip. "The shoulder area is flatter, providing a 5% wider footprint". Eureka ?!
Structurally, the M7 RR consists of a radial casing – what else? – "where the space between the fibers has been increased and is now occupied by more gum in order to reduce any possible natural rebound effects, all offering a better feeling of contact with the ground and more predictability".
Surrounding everything, the 0 ° steel belt applies the in-house "Interact" technology including "five differentiated zones (according to the tension applied in this belt, editor’s note) which offers a progressive behavior whatever the angle of inclination".
Already on the market, the new Metzeler tire is available in three sizes for the front and six for the rear, in order to adapt to the vast majority of sports cars, fast road cars and nasty roadsters. The price is not officially communicated, but is just a click away…
