Guy Martin had not competed in a race for almost two years: his second back fracture during the Dundrod 150 in 2015 had prompted him to and concentrate on other activities, in particular television.
But when Honda offered him to, “Mister Martine” plunged again! To prepare his – big? – return to the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man in 2017, the new official Honda rider has therefore entered several "national" road races, including the Tandragee 100, which he had not competed for for twelve years.
Unfortunately for the "Poupou du Titi", his first race on the SP2 ended in a fall from the first lap! Guy got out of track road with Paul Jordan. Luckily, the two riders recovered unscathed and went for a cup of tea by the side of the road as Derek McGee, William Dunlop and Derek Sheils drove to the podium. !
"The bike is good, but we have to work to get it where we want it to be," Guy Martin told our colleagues at the BBC. A second Superbike race was to take place, but heavy precipitation and then the severe accident of Dario Cecconi resulted in its cancellation: the Italian rider unfortunately succumbed to his injuries…
