The FIM supports the participation of electric motorcycles in the Tourist Trophy
In order to support the development of clean vehicles, the FIM has just given its official support to the Time Trials Xtrem Grand Prix (TTXGP), the first electric motorcycle race in the world which will be contested this year during the Tourist Trophy. !
Ecology is gradually taking an increasingly important place in the speeches, actions and events that punctuate our daily lives. Blamed at their beginnings, energy alternatives to our good old oil on the verge of extinction are now arousing the interest of – almost – everyone and are starting to challenge received ideas.
Arlesienne transport since the 90s, the electric motorization has recently taken important steps in terms of performance and autonomy. In the automotive industry, large groups are announcing the arrival of successful and rapidly marketable concepts. And even if the two-wheeler sector admits a slight delay, relevant solutions have emerged in recent years..
To illustrate the progress of this "green revolution" (even if the manufacture and then the recycling of batteries is not particularly ecological …), an incredible demonstration – recently dubbed by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) – will take place in June on the most famous road race in the world: the Tourist Trophy and its 60.72 km route with more than 200 turns !
Called TTXGP (Time Trials Xtrem Grand Prix), this round of a single round contested with two-wheelers that do not emit any polluting emissions will be held on Friday June 12 – just after the Senior Tourist Trophy – and will pit 23 prototypes carefully prepared by sixteen teams from seven different countries !
Although it seems unlikely that one of these machines will manage to overshadow John Mac Guinness and his laps at over 200 km / h on average (!), The initiative remains. no less interesting and striking, as the aura of the Tourist Trophy is so important in the motorcycle world.
Especially since some preparations are announced as ultra sharp, such as the EV0-R from the Evo Design Solution team, or the Suzuki 1300 GSX-R from Imperial College London which would go from 0 to 60 mph (96.6 km / h) in four seconds! The American Michael Czysz was working on a prototype already developing more than 115 hp, while the eagerly awaited Mission One would take its first steps in competition on the Isle of Man…
Announced as "the fastest electric motorcycle in the world", this prototype would be capable of reaching 150 mph (241.40 km / h) and has quality fittings: Ohlins suspensions, Brembo brakes, Marchersini forged rims … Heavy and proven for this model theoretically marketed in 2010, around 68,000 dollars (48,900 euros).
Very interested in alternative energies, the FIM was therefore quick to encourage the initiative in order to "demonstrate that transport technologies without harmful emissions have evolved a lot and can be fun, fast and exciting".
Vito Ippolito, President of the FIM, underlined the interest of developing technology without harmful emissions: "the future of our sport depends on our capacity as well as that of the manufacturers to innovate quickly. We are convinced that the motorcycle world championships will soon be accessible to non-polluting engines with regard to gas and noise emissions ".
This objective could quickly find a favorable echo through the national delegations of the FIM, since since this winter, the new president of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM), Jacques Bolle, does not hide his interest in this technology: the FFM has bought and tested with an electric motorcycle. And of course, Site will keep you … informed !
