The ZX-10R wins in Superstock at the Tourist Trophy
If the Superbike event of the Tourist Trophy 2011 was overflown by the CBRs, that of the Superstock was won by a ZX-10R! The promising Michael Dunlop beat Guy Martin on Suzuki and John McGuiness – again him – on Honda.
Yesterday on the Isle of Man took place the Superstock race of the Tourist Trophy 2011. Once again, all the big names in TT were fighting for the victory: John McGuinness (Honda), victorious Saturday in the Superbike category (read), Guy Martin ( Suzuki), the Dunlop brothers – William (Honda) and Michael (Kawasaki) -, Keith Amor (Honda), Cameron Donald (Honda), Michael Rutter (Ducati, the only one) or Adrian Archibald (BMW)…
From the tests however (see the video below of Michael Dunlop in the wake of Guy Martin during testing last Wednesday, gulp), Michael Dunlop and his Ninja hit hard, crossing the 130 mph mark on one lap alone. Last Friday … The nephew of the legendary Joey thus relegated his closest pursuer, Gary Johnson (Honda), to more than 12 seconds and Bruce Anstey (Honda again) to almost 20.
On D-Day, those two main rivals were finally Martin and McGuinness. The first on his GSX-R Relentless prepared by the TAS Racing team was in the lead after the first lap just ahead of John’s Honda n ° 1 and Michael‘s n ° 9 Kawa..
But from the second loop, the young Northern Irishman seized the lead and then left – so to speak … – his opponents, giving themselves 13 seconds ahead of them at the end of this second round.
Michael’s average on this second lap is breathtaking: 129.709 mph! His time is only 15 seconds from the absolute track record held by McGuinness since 2009 on a Superbike (17 ‘12.30). So all that remained was to manage the lead over John passed second and Guy in the middle of a fight against Keith Amor.
For the Greens, the demonstration is convincing: on the occasion of this Superstock race, their driver "thus simultaneously demonstrates that he is indeed one of the most promising drivers of his generation for road races (it is is his 2nd TT victory, the 9th for Kawa ‘, editor’s note) but also the formidable sporting potential of the all new Ninja ZX-10R ".
"What a wonderful start for Michael and Kawasaki on this occasion and what is more for the centenary year of the TT circuit" adds Kawasaki Motors UK Sales and Marketing Director Michael Johnstone.
Michael’s Kawasaki Street Sweep really didn’t go into detail. We would like to congratulate him and his entire team on behalf of all Kawasaki fans and the factory in Japan, and our entire network. of dealers in the country ".
A sentence that Paul Bird, team manager of the official Ninja engaged in World Superbike, no doubt dreams of uttering … This weekend, moreover, the WSBK will stop at the Misano circuit. On this occasion, Chris Vermeulen will try to make his real (?) Return to competition (read the box in)
The Australian toured last week on the Aragon circuit which will host the World Superbike from June 10 to 12: "the first day I did 60 laps and the second day 72, it’s not so bad" , remarks Chris still weakened by his knee – recovering for a year soon – and his elbow – damaged in Monza…
On his last official video, Vermeulen admits that he is not yet in the tempo … What will happen to his two teammates Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz? Will the all-new Ninja 2011 be able to fight at the forefront in Misano and Aragon as it has just done at the Tourist Trophy? Answer to follow, on Site of course !
