The opening round of the Tourist Trophy 2016 was won on Saturday by Michael Dunlop. Riding his S1000RR, the Northern Irishman broke the Superbike lap and race records. Even Hutchinson and McGuinness couldn’t do anything…

We know since 2009 and his first victory at the Tourist Trophy – in the Supersport category – that the succession of Joey and Robert Dunlop is ensured by their nephew / son Michael. In 2015 however, Dunlop "Junior" did not win once in the Isle of Man "Snaefell Mountain Course"..

This year, therefore, Michael arrived particularly recovered. The first driver to cross the 132 mph mark in practice, the driver of the BMW n ° 6 accelerated further in the first of two races in the Superbike category, contested on Saturday…

From the first of the six laps of the RST Superbike Race, the 27-year-old rider – but already taking part in his 10th "TiTi"! – set a new record by turning at 133.369 mph on average, becoming the first driver in history to complete the tour of the island in less than 17 minutes (16 ‘58.254) !

Behind in stopwatch, but ahead on the road, Hutchinson (BMW n ° 4) then climbed on McGuinness (Honda n ° 1) and was 3.6 seconds behind the leader on corrected times. But Michael still had some in his hand: "MD" improved his mark on his second lap, covering the 60.725 km of the track at an average of 133.393 mph.

After a quick pit stop at the end of the third lap, Michael Dunlop then continued his impeccable race – towards a 12th success in the Tourist Trophy -, thus finding himself at the height of Hutchison (2nd) and McGuinness (3rd)! The podium was sealed. The Top 5 was played in the last lap…

Peter Hickman (Kawasaki # 5) made a splash in the "132 mph club" with one final revolution averaging 132.892 mph. This fabulous final earned him the fourth place, which belonged the previous lap to Dean Harrison (Kawasaki # 12).

Behind Michael Rutter (BMW n ° 9) are ranked David Johnson and his Norton with V4 engine from Aprilia CRT (former MotoGP category!). Bruce Anstey posts his RC213V-S # 2 in eighth place ahead of two other BMWs: Gary Johnson’s # 7 and Lee Johnston’s # 13. Finally, note the 48th place for Julien Toniutti on his R1 !
