Ah, these English … They definitely don’t do anything like everyone else. For the press launch of this Tiger Sport 2016, Triumph officials have chosen to schedule the traditional presentation conference after the journalists’ roll !

Tiger Sport: availability, colors and price

For once – the first in 17 years, in fact – Site will therefore test a motorcycle blind or almost, since the information provided in preview had been scarce (read). One of the information was even downright false !

Indeed, the little finger of Site believed to know that the heated grips would be fitted as standard on the new Tiger Sport: bad pick! This equipment remains optional in 2016, unlike the high smoke and adjustable screen! -, the hand guards and the cruise control which are effectively part of the original equipment.

The main information unveiled in February is also confirmed: the "trail-road-sportsman" of Triumph inherits the latest generation of the 3-cylinder 1050 cc installed in the new Speed ​​Triple (read our). Compliant with the Euro 4 standard, the Tigress will therefore be sold directly in France. Yum yum !

As announced on the Motorcycle Journal of the Net this winter, the "Tripeul" of the Tiger Sport is always distinguished from that mounted in the Hinckley roadster: less powerful (less than 140 horses therefore), this variation is supposed to be better filled in mid-diets.

By giving us the keys to our test bike, however, the Triumph officials refused to give us the exact values ​​developed by their new bike: "it is up to you to estimate the engine power and its torque during your test. You will see tonight if you’ve fallen right !", they throw us amused. They are funny, these English !

After a few kilometers on the handlebars of the new Tiger Sport, Site laughs yellow however: the engine of the Tiger Sport seems curiously muffled while its vocalizations when stationary, a little more sonorous and muffled than on the previous model, were nevertheless exciting…

The "big" Triple is still as flexible as ever, no bad surprises at this level since it sets off again without hiccups from idle on sixth gear! But it is then slow to raise the tone, even on intermediate reports: you have to wait 5500 rpm to benefit from times worthy of a "thousand".

By pulling towards high revs, disappointment awaits again: the new Triumph Tiger Sport no longer extends its stride as much, as if it were restrained! Could it be that the Euro4 homologation and the "tuning"Did Triumph engineers castrate the 3-cylinder to this point?" What the flute? "

It was only at the first photo stop that the Motorcycle Journal du Net unraveled the mystery: our motorcycle is set to "Rain"! The previous version of the Tiger Sport being devoid of injection mapping modes, Site had not thought to verify this point when leaving … Grrrr.

By engaging the "Road" mode, the English Tigress regains all its vigor. Phew! The Triple shows even a hint of rounder. At the top, however, the power seems unchanged: the 140 horses of the Speed ​​Triple 2016 in any case are not all present and MNC wonders if Triumph has not simply kept the 125 horses of the previous mill..

In the evening, Site sees its diagnosis confirmed: the Tiger Sport 2016 won only one horse compared to the 2013-2015 vintages (126 hp therefore: see the technical sheet on the last page). "Note that the power is 4 to 6% greater between 5,000 and 7,000 rpm", however underline our hosts, curves in support.

When it comes to torque, the increase in the maximum value is also limited: 106 Nm reached at 7000 rpm in 2016, against 104 Nm at 4300 rpm previously. Again, the English engineers insist on the values ​​at half speed: "around 5,200 rpm, the torque of the new engine is + 4% higher".

Beyond these unverifiable data, Site readers must remember that the Tiger Sport engine has not been denatured: it pulls well from 4000 rpm, growls – from the air box – and pulses vigorously past 6500 rpm, then continues roaring until the switch is located at 10,250 rpm.

Supple and docile, our 2016 Tiger Sport allowed us to attack in the Verdon gorges while remaining in 3rd gear on the outward journey, then to roll up quickly to outstrip the rain on the 4th gear on the return. The pleasant gearbox is far from being overused !
