MNC analysis of World Superbike in Thailand
Beyond the points distributed, each race weekend brings its share of remarkable feats and poor performances, good and bad surprises. In its analysis, Site reviews the highlights of the WSBK in Buriram.
Behind the Greens, the WSBK sees red
Second in the constructors’ standings after with 36 points each, Honda and Ducati still share the same score (65 points) at the end of the Thai round. Their two top drivers, Michael van den Mark and Chaz Davies, have indeed swapped places at Buriram.
By taking turns on the third place of the podium and at his foot, "Magic Michael" (65 points) and "Chazie" (55) let Rea (95) go and pass Sykes (66). They move away from Sylvain Guintoli, currently 5th in the provisional with 40 points.
After having successfully negotiated the beautiful curves of Phillip Island, the No.60 Fireblade bravely faced the more "stop-and-go" portions of Buriram. We can therefore hope to see "VDM" fighting at the forefront on all types of route….
With its 31 points, the n ° 69 Honda only appears in 8th place in the general classification. Nicky Hayden would however deserve a better place (in the Top 5) since a "bug" again derailed his bike, preventing the American from finishing his first race.
Deprived of a first podium in Australia by too castrating traction control – and by Davide Giugliano! -, the "Kentucky Kid" this time had to give up because of a faulty sensor. The Ten Kate team and the HRC will have to ensure that this type of incident does not happen again….
Entirely responsible for his fall at the very end of the second Australian round, Chaz Davies did not fall into the same trap twice: careful, the n ° 7 Ducati did not attempt the slightest attack on Sunday while both Kawasaki # 66 and # 1 wrestled just under his chin bar…
The 14 points lost at Phillip Island obviously served as a lesson: Davies preferred to escort the two Ninjas to the checkered flag and pocket 16 points rather than tempt the devil. In the first round, however, the Welshman was a little more rare !
In championship wrestling and on the podiums with Van den Mark, Davies had a fiery duel on the track on Saturday against his teammate Giugliano. Blown up by his two great Australian races, the Italian unfortunately fell back into his failings…
More exactly, the n ° 34 unfortunately lost again the front in the last corner of the 17th lap. Fortunately unscathed, Davide got up immediately and even left to finish the race, beyond the points of course, but at least he did not get a scathing DNF ("Did Not Finish").
Tenth in the second heat, Giugliano explains his poor performance by a technical problem which would have reduced his speed on the straights. Its superior Ernesto Marinelli confirms – just like MNC who peeled the data and noted that the Panigale n ° 34 returned ten km / h to the n ° 7 as well as to the RSV4 n ° 32 behind which it was driving…
Besides Hayden and Giugliano, a third rider was singularly betrayed by his bike this weekend: Alex Lowes! "I’m disgusted with my day, I gave everything, for nothing", dropped n ° 22 on Twitter, its original version being more" flowery "…
"I feel better with the R1", retains all the same the champion of Great Britain 2013,"and I really thank all of my guys who worked really hard (again, Alex uses a more colorful expression where it is about buttocks, Editor’s note …) ".
