The 2004 vice world champion in Superbike will not participate "at all" in the season which begins this weekend at Philipp Island (read). "I will treat myself to 30 or 40 days of racing on the circuit, including five driving courses organized by Ducati France on exceptional production machines, but I will not register for any competition, whether in speed or endurance", Regis explains: "I keep in good shape by cycling at least 300 km per week, but persistent neck pain and deltoids encourage me to be reasonable".

Following his big fall during Kyalami’s tests last year, Regis had to undergo a decompression-fusion of the C5-C6 vertebrae (read). "Due to a previous accident dating back almost ten years, I now have three cervical vertebrae out of seven and I do not want to take any risk for my health", specifies the pilot still in contract with the Italian DFX team Corsica, which will enter only one Ducati 1098 R for the moment in the hands of Lorenzo Lanzi.

Laconi, who will celebrate his 35th birthday this summer, remains the last French rider to have won a speed Grand Prix in the premier class, at the time the 500 cc, in 1999 in Valencia (Spain).
