Superbike in Imola: Fabrizio replaces Terol, Giugliano warms up
The fifth World Superbike event will take place on May 10 in Imola (Italy). Two Roman riders on Ducati will be followed closely: Michel Fabrizio who replaces Nico Terol and Davide Giugliano back from injury… Explanations.
Victim of an ugly high side a little over a week ago during the, Nico Terol will not be able to participate in the next WSBK 2015 event on, as his manager Xavi Perez feared (read our).
Package for this future Italian round due to his broken right wrist, the last GP 125 world champion should find his team at the sixth round of the Superbike world championship, the (Great Britain).
While Site would have seen the young IDM champion Xavi Fores jump directly from Giugliano’s official Panigale onto that of his compatriot Terol, Genesio Bevilacqua (owner of Team Ducati Althea) preferred to entrust the Ducati n ° 18 to an experienced rider….
"Michel Fabrizio is one of the drivers who has always revolved around the Althea team", justifies the Italian boss."Already in, he had raced for us in Supersport: he was then only 19 years old and gave a hard time to famous pilots such as Muggeridge, Foret and Fujiwara".
In the Superbike category, where he played for eight seasons, including three with the Ducati works team alongside Bayliss and Haga, the n ° 84 has distinguished himself on numerous occasions: in 217 starts, Michel has ridden 35 times on the podium.
On four occasions, Fabrizio has climbed the highest step. The second time, in 2009, it was precisely on the Imola circuit where he will be racing in less than two weeks. Starting from pole position in his official 1098, he beat his teammate Noriyuki Haga and Aprilia’s guest Marco Simoncelli in the second round (read again).
"I am very happy to have received this call from the Althea team", comments Fabrizio, originally from Rome – like a certain Max Biaggi."It will only be for one round, but I am extremely proud to work in a team that I have always wanted to join", he skillfully emphasizes.
"I know that I have the confidence of the owner of the team, Genesio Bevilacqua, with whom I have a very good relationship, as well as that of the team members with whom I had worked in 2005.". For the record, the team was called at the time and also drove Fabien Foret.
"It will be a very exciting experience for me as I will have the opportunity to show what I am worth as a driver and that I can be competitive. Whatever happens, it will be a success", warns the Roman pilot.
Another Roman will also make his comeback in front of his audience: Davide Giugliano, member of the official Ducati Aruba.it team. Deprived of competition before it even started – as a reminder, he was injured during the -, the n ° 34 has ciabatta on the board…
Replaced successively by the legendary Troy Bayliss and by the sensational Xavi Fores, Davide was "overtaken" by his team-mate Chaz Davies: during his absence, the Welsh pilot beat him by signing the first victory of the Panigale R at most high level.
To restore his image, Giugliano must therefore regain the upper hand over "Chazie". The tifosis are also waiting for him firmly to take over from Melandri, the last Italian pilot to date …
In front of his family, Giugliano will finally have to break the hegemony of the British riders at the start of the championship: only the astonishing Michael van den Mark (Honda Pata) managed to secure two small places on the Superbike podiums, at home in .
On the other hand, it seems already certain that Davide Giugliano will not settle at the end of the year on the throne of the irreplaceable (?) "Roman Emperor": Max Biaggi, the only Italian rider to have won the world superbike crown (in and )…
Authorized by his doctor to do a few more motorcycle tours "piano piano"Last week, Davide photographed himself in the company of the famous n ° 3. It is together that they trained in Supermotard. They are crazy – of supermot ‘- these Romans…
