Superbike race declarations
Cal Crutchlow, 1st then 2nd: "They were two very close and enjoyable races. Congratulations to Max, he drove really well. Being panned +0 seconds each lap puts a lot of pressure and he got away with it fantastically. He’s the championship winner, so fighting him is a good sign for me. Finish fifth (of the general classification) is not too bad, so I am the rookie of the year. I came here with high expectations, Yamaha did a great job and am happy with the end results. The team has been fantastic so I owe them all a big thank you and all the sponsors and everyone who made our journey possible, made it possible for us to do our best this year.".
Max Biaggi, 4th then 1st: "The second race was really tough. We were much stronger than in the first heat and yet the competition was still there, on our heels. My cold did not weaken at all and after halfway I had difficulty breathing: I was really impatient to get to the last lap. It’s nice to end this season with a victory after securing the first places in the driver and constructor standings: the celebration was in Imola for me, but today it’s the team’s turn. They worked hard and deserve this success, from mechanics to engineers, those who follow me on the track and like those of Noale".
Leon Haslam, 2nd then 10th: "The first race was the kind of race I like: full of fights and everything on the wire. I’m so happy to have finished second and beat Max. In the last two corners, Max closed the doors, but I was determined and dove under him! He was surprised and he couldn’t recover. It was a tough attack, but running is a tough sport and sometimes it has to be. I was particularly happy to be on the podium because I didn’t have a very good start. I had come from far and gradually returned. Throughout the whole race, I had to do some pretty daring maneuvers, but it was necessary to fight for the podium. The championship may be played, but I still want to win races. Although third on the grid, I knew that a podium was also possible in the second race. Until, JT (James Toseland) go highside right in front of me! All weekend he’s been riding a bit hard. The third row of the grid is one thing, but to be 16th, with the peloton far ahead is another matter. I had wasted a lot of time on the grass after avoiding JT. Tenth is not the result I wanted to end the season, but the race is. It has been a great year. I only had two white results – one my fault and the other not – and I got on 14 podiums. I am very happy with this season and I want to thank everyone at Alstare Suzuki for all their efforts and support. It is thanks to them that I had the best season of my career !"
Carlos Checa, 3rd then 9th: "The first race was fantastic, we put on a great show and I finally managed to take advantage of Max’s mistake, thanks to choosing a completely different line than his. The race was close, I tried to beat against the 4-cylinders which had a bit of an advantage under acceleration. At one point I thought I had widened the gap but they were still behind me and we fought for the podium until the last meter. In the second run, I had to catch up after a difficult start. My results finally allowed me to get third place in the championship. I am very happy, I thank the team, the sponsors and all my relatives for this satisfactory year 2010 ".
Michel Fabrizio, 6th then 3rd: "The first race did not go as planned and the wear on the front tire caused a lot of problems for me, preventing me from catching the front ones. In the second round, I had a great battle with Guintoli. I was braking as hard as I could and as late as possible to make up for what I was losing in a straight line and had to attack on the third straight on the last lap. Sylvain wanted the podium because it was his home race but I wanted it for my team and to conclude the last three years spent with the Ducati Xerox team in the best possible way. I thank Ducati, all my team, the sponsors and the fans: it’s our day and I will enjoy it with my team".
Sylvain Guintoli, DSQ then 4th: "I am frankly disgusted! I fought like a lion today and half of my efforts were ruined by a black flag. It happened in the first run, when I was happily beating myself in the Top 4. I accidentally cut a chicane, made sure not to overtake anyone, but it looks like I had to join the race in a zone. marked out. I did not see any such place, and assumed it was all right. When the black flag with my number came out, it was too late. I was disqualified for not respecting the black flag. The second run was great: that’s what I’m running for! I got off to a good start and led the first eight laps. I was comfortable in the lead. In fact, I felt more comfortable in front than in the middle of the peloton. I had a good fight with Fabrice in the final phase. We had to pass ourselves four times in a single lap! He touched me a few times, but it was fair game. I tried my best to pass it and stay in front, but I just couldn’t handle it. I am very disappointed not to have received on the podium. I had a fantastic season. I have learned so much from this team. They pushed me, made me evolve as a pilot (in a good way) and helped me grow. I felt like part of the Alstare family from the start and I want to thank Francis and the whole team for this wonderful experience".
Tom Sykes, 7th then 11th: "This weekend has not been the easiest of the year but we have improved our place on the grid, which is always a good point. Overall I didn’t expect to set the track on fire this weekend but the guys put a lot of effort into it and I think we did our best this weekend. We made the most of our material. This year we have done more than we expected, in large part thanks to the hard work of the whole team and Kawasaki.".
Jonathan Rea, 12th then DNF: "The weekend at Magny-Cours was not great, but my championship was almost folded with my injuries suffered at Imola. My Manchester surgeon told me that it was pretty stupid to ride here, that it wouldn’t make my injuries worse, but that I would suffer. The plastic mold helped me out and I was riding pretty well, but no more than three or four laps. Then we had a strange accident during the warm-up: one of the water pump clamps came off and spilled water all over my rear tire. I went into a big highside and landed on my butt, which really hurt. But it wasn’t that bad and they patched me up pretty well. The first race drained all my energy and concentration and I suffered a lot. The difference between the third and the fourth (between Checa and him in the general classification) was not huge, I know I’m on a team that can win and I’m a driver of the same type. I learned a lot of things last year, which allowed me to get there, and I learned a lot this year, it will help me for next year. I’m going to have a scalpel on Tuesday to start my repairs. I just want to thank the whole team and my fans who made me strong.".
Troy Corser, DNF then DNF: "The weekend was very difficult for us. We had some issues with the tuning of the machine which prevented us from enjoying two good starts in today’s races. Unfortunately a technical problem cut short my two races, but I know that we have the equipment to succeed in the long term. Overall this has been a good year for the team and now we can look to next year and the development of the 2011 bike. I hope we will learn from today so that we keep ready for the start of next season. I would like to thank the whole team for their hard work and commitment during the season. I can’t wait to be next year".
