Sylvain Guintoli and Loris Baz both led this second Superbike round at Donington Park, but they could not do anything against the ” Number One ” of the category, Tom Sykes, who took advantage of his double at home to take back the championship orders…

Second Superbike race

Davide Giugliano’s 1199 Panigale rears up again when the red lights go out! The Italian poleman is overtaken by his compatriot Marco Melandri … as well as Sylvain Guintoli, Leon Haslam and Alex Lowes. Giugliano is followed by Loris Baz, Jonathan Rea, Tom Sykes, Chaz Davies, Toni Elias, Eugene Laverty and the Evo riders, including Guarnoni 16th, Lanusse 18 and Foret 21.

Guintoli took the lead before the end of the first lap. When braking from the Melbourne hairpin bend, Baz launches an attack on Lowes and blocks the Suzuki pilot … which Giugliano only avoids by crushing his brakes! The classification is then jostled: Guintoli and Melandri now lead ahead of Baz, Lowes, Sykes, Rea, Laverty, Davies, Giugliano and Elias.

At the very start of the 4th lap, Giugliano plunges his Ducati under Laverty’s Suzuki and reaches the seventh position. The Italian is three seconds behind leader Guintoli who is ahead of Melandri and Baz by a few lengths…

The # 34 Panigale gained a new place the following lap, overtaking Rea’s Honda … Moments later in Melbourne, the front wheel of Lowes’ GSX-R speared the rear wheel of Melandri’s Aprilia and two men instantly meet on the floor.

A handful of seconds later, in the next Goddards hairpin, Eugene Laverty loses the front of his Suzuki all by himself. The driver n ° 58 manages to start again in penultimate position … in front of Melandri but far behind his teammate Lowes !

Far ahead, Guintoli is joined by the two official Kawasaki! The top three are almost three seconds ahead of Davide Giugliano, four seconds over Rea, five over Davies and nearly eight over Haslam and Elias. Badovini and Iddon’s Bimota lead the Evos, but Salom’s Kawasaki officially leads the subcategory…

Jeremy Guarnoni had a very good second round: the n ° 11 defended dearly his 13th place against Andreozzi and Morais. Fabien Foret is in 17th position, just ahead of Romain Lanusse.

The halfway mark is approaching and Tom Sykes warns his teammate Loris Baz that he is getting impatient as he walks past him momentarily. "Bazooka" reacts by overtaking "Guinters" in the Esses. Sylvain returns to the brakes in Melbourne, widens slightly and lets Loris pass again … On the lookout, Sykes surprises the two Frenchies on the brakes in the next hairpin. !

The "Number One" takes the lead in the 12th lap, followed by Baz, Guintoli … and Giugliano, who took advantage of the Franco-British battle to get closer! Rea and Davies are four seconds behind the Italian and will undoubtedly struggle to play the podium…

The two Ninja isolated themselves in the lead on the 13th lap, leaving Guintoli to manage the rise of the hot Giugliano. Behind, Davies proves that the Ducati is perfectly at ease on the English track by snatching the former championship leader "JR" his fifth place.

Meanwhile, Alex Lowes continues his hellish comeback and reaches 13th place. Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty are 19th and 20th, behind the three French Ninjas: Jeremy Guarnoni, Fabien Foret and Romain Lanusse !

The race in the lead unfortunately lacks spice: Sykes has a big second ahead of his teammate Baz. Guintoli and his Aprilia turn a little slower than the two official Kawasaki riders, but dominate Giugliano and his Ducati. Davies also increases his lead over Rea, Haslam occupies a solitary 7th place.

You have to go down to 11th place to see Alex Lowes rub shoulders, quickly, with David Salom. The Suzuki rider quickly climbed back to Iddon and entered the Top 10 four laps from the end. The English champion’s next target is Elias’ Aprilia 24, two seconds ahead of him…

In front, Tom Sykes parade alone in the lead, two seconds ahead of his teammate Loris Baz and five seconds ahead of Sylvain Guintoli. Much better off than in the first round, the "Number One" flies over this event and takes its second double of the year.

Loris Baz once again accompanies the big boss of the discipline on the podium and also wins his second "double": a pair of second places, as in Aragon! After his underperformance in the first round, Sylvain Guintoli is fully satisfied with his third place.

With 185 points on the clock, Tom Sykes recovers first place in the provisional classification. Loris Baz climbs from fourth to second, which he shares with Jonathan Rea (159 pts). Sylvain Guintoli is fourth (148), far ahead of Davies, Melandri and Haslam…

The next points distribution will take place in two weeks at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, where the Superbike championship has never stopped yet.
