Sacred Sylvain Guintoli. The n ° 50 Aprilia has just won this evening at Losail a superb second victory in a row … and its first title of world champion! Our national ‘Guinters’ finally beat champion Sykes by 6 points.

Second Superbike Race

Tom Sykes got off to a great start, edging out Jonathan Rea, Davide Giugliano, Sylvain Guintoli, Toni Elias, Marco Melandri, Eugene Laverty, Chaz Davies, Alex Lowes and Alessandro Andreozzi. Loris Baz meanwhile, gets out of the first corner in 19th position !

Sykes completed the first lap in front of Rea but the Honda passed the Kawa ‘under braking! Guintoli shifts inside Giugliano but the Frenchie remains cautiously in fourth place, several lengths ahead of Elias, Melandri, Davies, Laverty, Lowes and Barrier, first Evo driver! Baz has already climbed to 11th position…

The factory RSV4 makes short work of the Ducati in the straight line and allows Sylvain to fit in the wheel of his n ° 1 target: Tom Sykes, "of course"! In the background, we see Suzuki n ° 58 leaving the track: Laverty will not finish his last Superbike race before switching to MotoGP…

Guintoli takes the Kawasaki’s aspiration in the pit lane and overtakes Sykes at the start of the 4th lap! Sylvain does not rush his attack on Honda n ° 65: rather than attempting an interior in a curve, the French n ° 50 waits for the next straight line to pass Johnny. The V4 holds incredible shape !

Barrier then Yates fall in the 5th lap, while "Guinters" applies … and moves away from Rea and Sykes! Giugliano and his Ducati let go of the top three and are soon joined by the other two Aprilia: the private # 24 from Elias and the official # 33 from Melandri. Davies is in their wheels, Baz is three seconds away.

In the 7th lap, the French leader has a full second ahead of his two British pursuers … and six points over Sykes in the provisional standings, Rea being ahead of the 2013 champion on the track. But Tom takes second from Johnny on the first braking of the 8th lap !

At this point, Guintoli has only two points more than Sykes in the championship. But the Aprilia rider continues to put in – very – heavy gas and completes the 5.38 km in 1.57.9, almost half a second faster than his great rival..

About four seconds behind Sylvain, Toni Elias, Marco Melandri, Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano are still fighting to place their Italian motorcycle (Aprilia or Ducati?) In fourth position. Loris Baz rolls to a lonely eighth place. Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam complete Top 10 as 11th round kicks off.

The third step of the podium is still occupied by Jonathan Rea and his Honda, but the Northern Irish rider does not leave the backsplash of the Kawasaki n ° 1. "JR" is fighting for third place in the championship and wants to overtake the 2013 champion to score the most – big – points !

In front, Guintoli chained the perfect laps and accumulated more than three seconds ahead of Sykes while there were only five laps to go … Aprilia n ° 50 and its pilot are in perfect symbiosis, while Tom Sykes must fight with his Ninja to get ahead of Fireblade # 65 !

With three laps to go, Sylvain Guintoli takes his lead to more than four seconds. Jonathan Rea finally finds an opening on Tom Sykes when the latter turns – on the wrong side! – to judge the distance that separates him from his pursuer !

In the background, Melandri, Davies and Elias are still fighting for 4th place … But "Bazooka" is back! No.76 moved up the field, got rid of Giugliano in the 15th lap, and joined the fight between No.33, 24 and 7.

Far ahead, Guintoli plunges into the first curve of the last lap, glancing behind him: nobody! The Frenchie wisely completes his last lap and can finally let his joy burst at being crowned 2014 Superbike World Champion !

Third in the race, Tom Sykes is finally beaten by his French challenger by 6 points: 416 to 410. The English Ninja is the driver who has won the most races this season (8 against "4 + 1 offered by Melandri" for Guintoli ), But it was not enough…

Second in this second round, Jonathan Rea snatched third place overall from Melandri. There again, the consistency paid off since the n ° 33 Aprilia won "7-1 races" (!) This year, against 4 for the n ° 65 Honda. Baz completes the world Top 5, 105 points behind Guintoli.
