Once again this year, Site will follow the exploits, setbacks, fights and victories of the World Superbike for you. The 2011 season begins February 26 in Australia, but let’s take advantage of the official tests in Portimao to make the presentations !

As always, the Supersport category will necessarily see the emergence of new talents. Indeed, the three leaders that were Sofuoglu, Laverty and Lascorz left to ride in other disciplines: Moto2 for the Turkish world champion, World Superbike for the Irish and the Spanish….

On the other hand, the next World Supersport champion (WSSP) will not necessarily be a youngster, since old wolves still roam the 600 category. This is particularly the case of Fabien Foret, who has reinstated alongside Florian Marino the Team Ten Kate (read).

A return to the sources for the Charentais – which will celebrate its 38 years Saturday -, which one hopes the most productive possible. Gerrit and Ronald Ten Kate’s plans are crystal clear: to secure a second title with Foret in 2010 – after the team’s very first in 2002 – then a new one with Marino in 2011 !

Members of the most charismatic team on the Supersport field, our two French people will not have it easy for all that: their 27 competitors will do everything to thwart Ten Kate’s plans! In particular, beware of numbers 4, 7, 9, 11, 23, 31, 44, 55, 77 and 127 (read). Or in the order of their plates: Gino Rea, Chaz Davies, Luca Scassa, Sam Lowes, Broc Parkes, Vittorio Iannuzzo, David Salom, Massimo Roccoli, James Elison and Robbin Harms…

With 16 CBR600RRs registered this year, Honda is once again the most represented manufacturer in WSSP. Follow the Yamaha (6), whose two from the ParkinGO team (ex-Triumph) mark the official return of the brand to tuning forks in competition. !

Titled in 2009 with Cal Crutchlow, the white and blue R6 took a sabbatical year but returns in 2011: it will be driven by the fiery Chaz Davies and Luca Scassa, a regular on the WSBK circuit. These two will certainly be among the fiercest opponents of Fabien and Florian…

On the Kawasaki side, four small Ninja will set out again to assault a title that their brand has never obtained, despite the coronation – "pilot" and not "manufacturer", nuance! – Andrew Pitt in 2001. The Greens will rely this season on experienced Broc Parkes and David Salom to change the game. 2011, the Kawa year in both SBK and SSP ?!

Three Triumphs – instead of the five originally planned, the BE1 Racing team having finally preferred the Yamaha option – will defend the colors of the Union Jack. Almost unknown, the pilots of Italian, South African and Slovenian origin (Dell’Omo, Quarmby and Jerman) will have to prove themselves on their Daytona 675.

Finally, we can only deplore the absence of Suzuki … The Hamamatsu firm is the only one to offer a new machine on the Supersport market – except for the R version of the Daytona, sorry -, but no did not consider it appropriate to launch a program in World Supersport (read our) … Too bad, because the little Gex has potential! In the French championship, maybe ?!
