WSBK United States (2): double blow for Davies and Ducati

Second Superbike race
Chaz Davies made another very good start and plunged into the first hairpin ahead of Tom Sykes, Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam, Davide Giugliano, Jordi Torres, Alex Lowes, Niccolo Canepa and Sylvain Guintoli. De Puniet is 15th, Ponsson 18th.
Well placed but not quite in line with the best, Torres loses contact with the first group at the end of the first lap. Lowes misses slightly at the start of the second lap and in turn delays the rest of the peloton.
Suddenly, the Ducati n ° 34 sets off in a very small but very dry highside, sending Giugliano flying at full speed in the gravel … The Italian seems conscious but damn stunned. At the end of the 2nd lap, a new incident occurs: Lowes decides to return to the pits and cuts the road to Guintoli !
The n ° 1 raises his Honda but the Fireblade is in a sorry state and will not be able to start again. For his part, n ° 22 comes out of the pits with rain tires but shakes his head: white flags with red crosses indicate the arrival of a few drops, but they are not numerous…
On the track, Davies is just a second ahead of Sykes. Rea and Haslam are a few pitches from Ninja # 66.
Jordi Torres is in a solitary fifth place, four seconds behind his teammate No 91 and three seconds ahead of Niccolo Canepa and Ayrton Badovini who are vying for sixth place.
David Salom, betrayed by his Kawasaki on the last lap of the, joined the pits but stayed ahead. His Ninja is the victim of a new technical glitch … Lowes is already one lap behind the leaders who continue to attack despite the fine rain that falls on certain sections of the small American circuit.
Sykes nearly lost the rear at the exit of turn 6 and allows Rea to pass in front on the climb to Corkscrew! But the leader of the championship is slightly missed under braking of the "corkscrew turn" and takes back his third place. Leon Haslam has a front row seat but can’t star.
Davies takes advantage of the fight between the two Ninjas to increase his lead, which exceeds three seconds in the 7th lap. Equally at ease as in the first round, the Ducati n ° 7 rider flies to the double: his first of the season … and the very first of the 1199 Panigale !
In the 8th lap, Sykes and Rea calm things down and manage to distance Haslam. Diving towards the first hairpin of the 9th lap, Rea takes an extremely wide trajectory. Biting into a less clean and wetter portion of the track, the No. 65 front Pirelli momentarily slips away. Hot !
In fifth position, Jordi Torres grabs precious tenths on each lap from his teammate Leon Haslam! The "Spanish Elvis" finds himself in the wheel of the "Pocket Rocket" at the start of the 12th lap and the rookie intends to beat his experienced teammate, who is just celebrating his 200 starts. !
Like Jonathan Rea in, Jordi Torres seems a little faster than his teammate but struggles to find the right place and the right time to unleash a clean, flawless attack. The Spanish rider overtook the English on the 16th lap but was overwhelmed in the "Rahal Straight" !
Seven seconds ahead of the two Aprilia Red Devils, Jonathan Rea is still chasing his teammate Tom Sykes but the No. 66 precedes the No. 65 by a good second. Chaz Davies, for his part, is the only Ducati official on the track – Giugliano is at the medical center – and maintains his lead above three seconds.
With five laps to go, the Top 10 is almost defined. Apart from the two drivers on RSV4, the others are too far apart to change the classification: Davies, Sykes, Rea, Haslam or Torres – they exchange their places on the 21st lap! -, Badovini, Van den Mark, Canepa, Mercado and Camier. De Puniet is 11th, Ponsson 15th.
With two laps to go, Torres attacks his teammate on the third corner and passes in front of him again! The n ° 81 manages this time to keep the advantage and whips his Aprilia even more beautifully, even if it means sliding it from the rear and the front. !
The last lap is on and Chaz Davies can afford to roll up to win the second American race! Tom Sykes beats his teammate Jonathan Rea again while Jordi Torres and Leon Haslam complete the "Top Five" in that order.
Arrived in the United States with 133 points ahead of Sykes, Rea saw his lead reduced by eight points: 125, or five victories. Fallen in and beaten by his teammate in second, Haslam lost precious points at Laguna Seca and was overtaken by Davies in the provisional…
