On the Route des Garrigues

On the Route des Garrigues.

The party starts on the D8n from Gemenos to Cuges les Pin. Heavy traffic prevents you from being able to let off steam on the first 180-degree bends uphill. Away from rush hours, however, you can really enjoy the perfectly rounded radii. Now comes the Col de l’Ange. On the hilltop the small rest house, in front of which there are always many trucks at lunchtime. Must be good, but eat elsewhere. Right here it goes in on the right. Be careful not to go too fast through the first corners. Even if they look promising, the asphalt is often smeared with clay. Past the riding stables. Don’t miss the branch now. The road makes a sharp bend to the right on a bridge. At the apex, continue straight on on the D3d. Into the forest of Roquefort. One curve chases the next. There are only a few blind spots, but the rugged cliffs urge you to be careful. You get faster, feel the adrenaline. Because now it comes. The road meets the Route des Garrigues at Grand Caunet, which comes up from Ceyreste. Left and fire free. The grippy asphalt hugs the gently curved plateau with every turn. The spicy scent of the pine forests rises in the nose, a feast for all the senses. The curves are banked on the outside, the course of the route can be seen far ahead. The 675 Daytona literally sucks itself in on this mountain-and-valley railway. In the end it is almost only straight ahead. Now show your courage, let go of the gas and take off on the little hump in front of Hauts-du-Camp! The stop sign brakes again. Another 500 meters straight ahead, at the intersection the question: turn right to the “Circuit Paul Ricard”, the legendary race track at Le Castellet, or turn left and stop right away for a quick espresso and a delicious baguette in the bakery. Because now you could use a small meal.

Run on Ronda

It is rare that both the knee slider faction and travel freaks find the same route a dream. The A397 makes them all happy. The street itself is wide and very easy to see. It winds permanently around mountains and deep erosions over the Serrania de Ronda, a mountain landscape in which one could easily film continuations of old spaghetti westerns. Coming from the Costa del Sol, overtaking maneuvers are thwarted in the first few kilometers by solid lines. But then it goes over beautiful, sometimes very wide curves 45 kilometers long almost entirely in an inclined position. Those who put the sporting aspect in the foreground will not be disappointed, as will the strolling landscape gourmet. The route leads partially up to an altitude of almost 1000 meters to the destination Ronda, which is 723 meters high, and is so seductive that you never even think about taking another route back.

The dream streets in the south of Italy are great. Today we present an insider tip for enduro riders or normal bikers without fear of potholes. It is an extremely winding connection between the towns of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa in the Lucanian Dolomites. The asphalt is old, often full of holes and broken up, but the driving pleasure does not suffer as a result, but is increased by the cornering cycle and the magnificent rocky landscape. Eight kilometers of sensual pleasure and amazement. As a reward, a lap through the picturesque village of 1000 souls Castelmezzano (1088 meters). Or mountaineering in the bizarre rocks. Or speed on a steel cable at a height of 400 meters at 120 km / h from Castelmezzano to Pietrapertosa, the total thrill (www.fantasticable.com). Then switch to the other side of the SS 407 or E847 (leads from Potenza to Metaponto) and let off steam on the roller coaster lanes to Campomaggiore.
