Motorcycle used report: Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom
Released at the end of 2003 after its big sister 1000, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 is a "Swiss Army knife" motorcycle, versatile, comfortable and economical. And as reliability is at the rendezvous, this trail-road is an excellent choice on occasion. Balance sheet.
Good all-round deal !
Presented at the end of 2003, is a (small) reduction copy of its big sister 1000. It is powered by the twin borrowed from the SV, just a little quieter for its trail program. Its architecture based on its double aluminum beam frame allows it to display a light weight (189 kg dry), and a fairly low center of gravity.

It keeps its big sister 1000 a fairly high template, with a saddle at 820 mm, and even 835 on the latest! Its width also imposes a small arcade effect which does not encourage more short (s) on legs … Braking is identical to the "big" V-Strom, with an ABS option made available from 2007.
Comfort is ensured by suspensions which do their job well. The conventional fork is adjustable in preload, as is the shock absorber, the adjustment of which is further facilitated by a large, very accessible knob. The original screen protects rather well, except for the very large ones who will often opt for a higher.
In use, the Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom is very reassuring. After the first hesitation due to the size, we quickly find our marks on this easy machine. Its ultra flexible twin shows good will all in curves, with vigor but without brutality.
Its turning radius allows U-turns in a handkerchief. But make no mistake, beneath its appearance of a wise and comfortable motorcycle hides a very real efficiency. A V-Strom driver on a small mountain road will be well armed to resist the most athletic inclinations in a relaxed manner. !
Always ready to travel, solo or in a loaded duo, the Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom has all the assets of true versatility. Economical in purchase, insurance, consumption and maintenance, it will delight small budgets. And as it holds the rating very well on occasion thanks to excellent reliability, it is a very good deal. !
