Praises what makes you fast. The “Hyperdisc” clutch disks from TGP Moto-Racing make a small contribution to this. The hard-coated aluminum panes replace the standard steel counterparts. According to the TGP, the discs are up to 68 percent lighter (BMW S 1000 RR) than standard discs with a similar durability.
Advantage: Thanks to the lower rotating masses, the engine revs up faster, which means that the bike accelerates better. In addition, the Hyperdiscs should better dissipate heat, which counteracts overheating. In addition, according to the manufacturer, the discs work with all oils.
TGP also offers special Kevlar friction discs for the S 1000 RR, which save even more weight. During the test of the TGP PR 12 racing blockbuster (PS 1/2014), we were able to convince ourselves of the flawless function of the clutch. Important: When assembling the Hyperdiscs, the friction disks must also be replaced. In addition to the BMW Superbike, the Hyperdiscs are also available for other athletes. Price: from 295 euros, contact: www.tgp-racing.com
Exhaust systems
Series bikes with their exhaust systems are tuned in such a way that they comply with statutory exhaust and noise regulations. Accessory exhaust on, optics, performance and sound up and going is therefore hardly possible any more. When it comes to racetracks, things look different.
Without ABE and catalytic converter, significantly more power can be achieved with appropriate exhaust systems. The changing evacuation of the burned mixture requires a corresponding adjustment of the control electronics for optimal function. There are tips and facts here.

Additional control devices
Additional control units are a very good means of teasing even more horsepower from a production bike. As an alternative to Power Commander and Co., chip tuning is also possible with motorcycle – provided you can intervene in the control unit. PS will publish tests on this soon.
The costs range from around 250 euros for “flashing” the series electronics to well over 1000 euros for control units with traction control and optimal coordination by a professional. Important: The operating license expires immediately in the event of such interventions.
Lithium-ion batteries
The lighter a motorcycle is, the easier it is to operate with it – of course. Huge weight can now be saved with super-light lithium-ion batteries (up to two thirds).
They also have many other advantages: they can be installed in any position because they do not contain acid, are much smaller, can be charged faster and hardly discharge themselves. The only known disadvantages: They are usually significantly more expensive and more likely to cause trouble below zero degrees.

Racing oils
On the race there is a clear command for engines: full throttle! Under these conditions it is wise to ensure optimal lubrication. Racing oils are usually fully synthetic oils that lubricate optimally in higher temperature ranges.
Multigrade oils with a viscosity range of 10 W 40, which are used in everyday operation, reach their limits. Supposedly, high-viscosity racing oils are even supposed to increase performance. PS will test this in one of the upcoming issues.
Racing fairings
The less contact surface for the incoming air, the faster – that’s no secret either. However, the dimensions and design of the series fairings are also due to other requirements – such as the styling of the machine, which then comes at the expense of aerodynamics. This can be improved with special racing fairings.
However, if you want to start in certain racing classes that are very close to series production, you should check the regulations to see whether and how far the racing fairing may deviate from the original. Series fairings are definitely heavier, even if the additional parts are made of similar plastic. In addition, the original plastic is much more fragmented and very expensive – nobody really wants to fall with it. There are many cladding specialists for materials from GRP to carbon. Here are some important ones: Ilmberger, Racefoxx, Sebimoto, Ricambi, MLB, Motorrad-Stecki, GL-Motorrad-technik, TTSL, etc..
Gear indicators
Stupid if you lose track in the heat of the moment and are in high gear when exiting a curve. Swing away – opponents away! On the other hand, gear indicators like those that are standard on many motorcycles today help. Even with additional dashboards, the aisle sensor can then be tapped and the aisles can be displayed.
Often, however, it is necessary to intervene in the wiring harness. One plug & Additional Play display for bikes without a standard gear counter is available from PZRacing at Polo (119.95 euros, www.polo-motorrad.de). For most models, it is sufficient to plug it into the control unit. The gear is determined from the data of the injection. Attention: With some bikes this only works with ABS-free models.
Brakes
You can only be fast if you brake properly. It is therefore advisable not only to keep the braking system in perfect condition, but also to adapt it to your own braking style. The first step is to try out different brake pads. However, the interplay between pad and disc, and in the further course of the brake line, fluid and brake pump, should not be underestimated.
Moving pressure points or a spongy feeling are mostly caused by the system, not the rubbers themselves. However, if it brakes bluntly, you should look at pads and discs. 2012 tested PS. Winner for discs and rubbers with ABE: Braking Wave WK 109 (disc) and CL Brakes SBK5 (lining), without ABE the Alpha Racing AB-1033-C20 rubbers were convincing.
Racing discs
As with cladding, it is especially true of standard windows that it is much better with accessories. The slightly higher racing lenses offer significantly better wind protection at high speeds.
As a result, the head submerged behind the protection remains calm, the braking points can be better targeted and concentration is maintained for longer. The leading manufacturers are MRA and Puig. Racing discs cost around 80 euros for the most popular athletes.
tire
The performance only comes onto the road when the traction is right. For this you need suitable tires. For grip in all situations and thus the highest possible speed, especially in curves, slicks are the best solution.
However, this is at the expense of the service life – and the treadless skins have no business on public roads. Slicks are also not built for sustained top speeds, such as those that are allowed to be driven on the autobahn, for example. In return, they round off the driving pleasure on the racetrack with their grip and direct feedback.

Appropriate translation
The right gear ratio is decisive for the race. But even when it comes to driving fun, i.e. pulling power, a shorter gear ratio often moves mountains. But be careful: If you change the secondary gear on the road, your operating license will expire.
There are two options for shorter gear ratios: fewer teeth on the front of the sprocket or more teeth on the rear of the chainring. Anyone who changes the pinion intervenes much more decisively. The translation can be finely graded with different chainrings. If you want maximum top speed, you have to translate so that it is reached at the speed at which the motor delivers maximum power.
Sports filter
When simply exchanging series filters for sports filters, you shouldn’t set your expectations too high. Manufacturers promise up to three horsepower or even five percent more power, but that is actually not noticeable. It looks different with tuned motorcycles.
If the engine is tuned on a large scale, the airbox and the exhaust system are revised accordingly, sports filters make perfect sense, of course, as they allow more air throughput and thus more oxygen gets into the mixture. Switching from the original to a normal replacement filter makes sense because replacement filters can be washed out and thus last longer.
