Driving report: MV Agusta F4 R
The super sports car from MV Agusta in the test
MV Agusta has adjusted the model range as a whole, including the four-cylinder super sports cars: Now the basic F4 R has got the short-stroke engine that was previously reserved for the exclusive RR top model. Otherwise the F4 R is and remains a typical MV.
It was a bit confusing what MV Agusta had in the program over the past decade, whether Brutale or F4. There were different displacement variants, with the athletes first 750 cm3, then 1000, finally 1078, finally the round liter again. And there were regularly outrageously expensive special models with imaginative, melodious names, whose practical utility could sometimes be discussed. Now everything should be different, clearer, simpler, more manageable.
B.The F4 super sports car is only available in two models. That was already the case in the 2011 model year, but now these two variants continue to grow together technically. The top model RR came at the beginning of last year, with the higher-speed short-stroke motor it should lift 200 hp to the role. The basic F4, which was thoroughly renovated in 2010 both technically and visually, on the other hand, still had the older engine with a longer stroke and smaller pistons, which produced a nominal 186 hp. From now on, both versions, R and RR, have the same short-stroke engine with only minor differences in the nominal power; 195 PS reported MV for the F4 R. Otherwise, the two athletes differ in the chassis components and equipment. While the RR has an Ohlins chassis, Marzocchi supplies the fork for the R, Sachs the shock absorber.

The rear of the MV – something very special.
So that the MV does not catapult itself into an orbit close to the earth, two 320 mm brake discs with Brembo monobloc calipers and a radial brake pump reduce excess speed in a highly transparent manner. The cast aluminum footrests alone are not very handy, so you can slip off quickly with your boots. Furthermore, as with the premium version, an eight-stage traction control should help to keep the violence under control in critical situations.
In addition to adequate creditworthiness – the F4 R costs EUR 18,500 plus additional costs – self-control and a tendency to self-portrayal are important prerequisites for being happy with an MV. Self-control because the first gear, which can reach speeds of up to 128 km / h, is enough to permanently lose your driving license – and because the bitterly screeching engine constantly begs to exhaust this.
Self-portrayal because an MV even today attracts attention even when it is stationary and, at the latest when starting, the last ignoramus turns his head towards the source of the noise. Because the expressions of life of the four-wheeler with the four radially arranged valves per combustion chamber are far beyond what usually escapes production bikes. With increasing speed, the grumbling turns into a screeching that lets the dead wake up. A real MV – it was clear.
