Unlike the F4 which has to make do with its achievements, the F3 800 has benefited from a few developments recently, in order to allow it to continue its career under Euro4. It is true that his engine is so exhilarating that he deserved to continue to make those who envy him triumph.. The 3-cylinder block retains its power and torque, updates its engine management, gains a hydraulic clutch, and benefits from a series of technical modifications, affecting the cylinder head, distribution, exhaust and gearbox. With this, the pistarde can renew her confidence and her charm.
With this 800 version of the F3, MV-Agusta offers one of the most interesting sports cars that we have seen on the market for a long time. Beautiful as an Italian diva, sculpted, slender, sexy and terribly attractive, Varese’s machine here bridges the gap between the SuperSport 675 and the monstrous F4 1000. With 798 cm3 and 148 horsepower, the F3 gives life; with a 3-cylinder and its MVICS pack, the sports car delivers character and active safety. But above all, ESPECIALLY, what a beauty !
We will not blatter vitam aeternam on the plastic of the F3 800. From the first F4 to the Rivale, Schiranna’s machines never stop intoxicating under the guise of elegance and sportiness on edge. To treat yourself to an MV is to indulge yourself just by watching it.
The first chapter of the F3 made us discover a very small engine block, all nervous, with 3 bowls moving in 675 cm3. But like any gluttony, we want more when the language demands even more satisfaction. Nothing like a small increase in displacement to put the sensations in + mode. The operation went very well for the Brutale B3; the transplant only asked to take on the pistarde.
This boiler, what do we do to it? Mainly an increase in stroke, from 45.9 to 53.4 mm. In doing so, the displacement flirts with the 800 but it is above all the performance of the engine that makes a leap. The 3-cylinder now spits 148 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, ie 20 hp more than the 675, and this obtained 1,400 very earlier. The couple is close to 9 mkg, at the same speed of 10,600 revs. The mechanics can fly up to 13,500 revs here.
Engine manufacturers took the opportunity to upgrade the pedigree and internal parts, with titanium valves and new injectors, six in all. No need to touch more parts; this block of only 52 kilos exudes technique beyond power. Counter-rotating crankshaft, water and oil pumps integrated in crankcases, tiny size and fighter plane electronics.
The F3 800 embeds electronics Motor & Vehicle Integrated VSontrol System, that is to say about as much assistance as on a Superbike machine. Let’s make it simple: Ride By Wire throttle grip, 8-level anti-slip, 4 engine maps – one of which can be configured in all directions. For 2014, let’s add to that the EAS shifter installed in series.
Certainly, we can be flattered to have these co-pilots to limit the swerves of the fiery 3-cylinder, but will this 800 offer us more qualities in terms of the chassis? Straightforward, let’s say that evolution still has some good things to do. The “big” F3 wins Brembo monobloc M4.34a brake calipers, heralding formidable braking. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 1380 mm although the swingarm has lengthened to 576.5 mm, in favor of traction. The 43mm Marzocchi inverted fork and Sachs monoshock have new settings to handle the extra watts. Finally, the final gear ratio is a bit longer. The ratio goes from 16/43 to 17/41.
After being generalized on 4-cylinder models, ABS invaded the Tre Pistoni range in 2014. The Bosch control unit, 9MP version, is very small, very light, and is moreover disconnectable. The F3 has two modes: Normal for road use, Race for muscular use.
More horses, more and more expensive, more speed, more acceleration, more pleasure … everything increases with this MV-Agusta F3 800? No, the mass remains the same: 173 kilos dry. Suddenly, the weight / power ratio goes from 1.17 kg / ch instead of 1.35 kg / ch for the 675. Muscled Italian. And we can trust it to be superbly sporty with its singularly rigid chassis, equipped with the eternal frame mixing aluminum plates and steel trellis. Originally fitted with Pirelli Diablo Corsa tires. We therefore expect a machine as agile and manoeuvrable as the 675, with a nice touch of performance in addition.
