A rather impressionistic photo, albeit not without a technical statement. In the fork of this rocker arm, the valve stem and a stop are inserted, via which the valve is kept closed and closed. The associated cam runs across the circle segment opposite.

The two-part intake funnel can be clearly seen, above one of two injection nozzles for each cylinder. Between the funnels are the mechanics and the electric drive, which lifts the upper parts of the funnel at high speeds. The throttle valves are oval.

As with the Panigale engine, the water pump is located in the V of the cylinder, underneath the pressure oil pump. Two engine stops can be seen in front of the front cylinders, and exactly opposite at the rear end, presumably the attachment of the swing arm mounting.

A look under the valve cover reveals a lot of cams on the shafts. NO and NC contacts in close succession. The angular profile of the closer cams in the foreground gives an idea of the vehemence with which the valves are slammed shut.

The crankshaft seen in the direction of travel. The unusual crank pin offset is easy to see. The crank webs are impressively narrow. Not a special feature of Ducati, but a sheer necessity are the carefully rounded transitions between the cheeks and pins. Sharp corners and edges would lead to notches.

Two more holding points are attached under the suspected swing arm mounting. What they are supposed to hold, however, cannot be made out. Maybe the rear exhaust manifold.

From a single source: Both cylinder banks and the upper part of the motor housing together with the water pump housing are combined in one cast part. Obviously it is already a series part.

Desmosedici Stradale

So this is it: the new V4 engine from Ducati, which will replace the Superquadro V2 of the 1299 Panigale. He should lead the Ducati superbikes into a new era, but not forget the traditions of the Italian manufacturer.

First of all, the most important news for all Ducati enthusiasts: the new V4 also has a desmodromic valve control. This type of valve control was already used in the 1960s D.ucati and symbolizes engines from the traditional Italian manufacturer. The new Ducati V4 engine “Desmosedici Stradale” is slim and tall and remains compact. Overall, the new V4 weighs only 2.2 kilograms more than the two-cylinder in the current 1299 Panigale. The displacement was somewhat surprising in comparison to the four-cylinder competition from BMW, Honda & Co. increased: instead of 1,000 cm³, the new V4 has 1,103 cm³.

Technical data of the new Ducati V4 engine

It will be particularly exciting for all those interested in the technical data (manufacturer information) of the new V4 engine from Ducati, which we would not like to withhold from you for long:

Four-cylinder V-engine, four valves / cylinder, two overhead camshafts driven by chains, desmodromic valve control, over 155 kW (over 210 hp) at 13,000 rpm, over 120 Nm from 8,500 to 12,250 rpm, bore / stroke: 81.0 / 53.5 mm, 1,103 cm³, compression: 14: 1, ignition / injection system, 52 mm throttle valves, multi-disc oil bath clutch, six-speed gearbox, chain drive, service intervals of 24,000 kilometers.

It will be interesting to see what the new Ducati models with the V4 engine will look like. One name is already certain: Panigale V4. We will find out more at a press conference on November 5, 2017 at 9 p.m..

By the way, detailed information with technical explanations about the new V4 engine from Ducati is available in the following video and in the upcoming PS 10/2017, which will be on the kiosk from 13.09.2017 and in MOTORRAD 20/2017 (from 15.09.2017 at the kiosk ).
