Presentation of the Triumph TT 600
Place there
Ironically, in the hotly contested supersport middle class, where the top dogs are the Yamaha R 6 or Honda CBR 600 F, Triumph wants to conquer in place. With the TT 600.
Triumph has long since blossomed into a serious motorcycle brand. Not a company that just announces what it will build someday, but is constantly developing and completing the model range more and more. With the supersport four-cylinder TT 600, the British are well on their way.
But it can get rocky. Because in the 600 supersport class there are some top-class motorcycles. For example the Honda CBR 600 F, which won the comparison test against competitors from Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha who were no less agile and in good physical condition. In MOTORRAD 26/1998 you can read what is state of the art in this category. Can Triumph keep up with the TT 600?
From the key data, yes. It also has a modern, water-cooled four-valve inline four-cylinder with two overhead camshafts. In the bore / stroke ratio of 68 to 41.3 millimeters, it was even a bit shorter-stroke than the competition (Honda: 67 to 42.5 millimeters) and, thanks to electronic injection, significantly more advanced. Of course, the TT also has a ram air system in which the fresh air is sucked in via two snorkels on the bow of the fairing. If the output of 110 hp at 12800 rpm corresponds to reality, the TT 600 can easily keep up with the Japanese, who have so far delivered between 105 and 111 hp on the MOTORCYCLE test bench.
The Triumph also tries to reward the same with the same with the chassis layout. The recipe for success is called a light metal bridge frame with generous thin-walled profiles and an engine. All spring and damper elements are adjustable, just like the competition. Nowadays, at least 295 millimeter brake discs and four-piston calipers are used at the front, and Kawasaki even brakes with six-piston calipers. Triumph should therefore be right with 310 discs and four-piston calipers. The specification is also clear for tires and wheels: 120/70 ZR 17 at the front on a 3.5 inch rim, at the rear 180/55 ZR 17 on a 5.5 inch wide wheel.
Maneuverability and agility can be defined in the supersport category: wheelbase under 1400 millimeters if possible, weight around 200 kilograms with a full tank, caster around 90 millimeters. Bingo: put all requirements. See technical data next to it. For comparison, the values of the Honda CBR 600 F, which the TT 600 is most similar to: 1395 millimeters, 201 kilograms and 96 millimeters.
D.It also depends on fine-tuning and the perfect interaction of all elements. And the Japanese competition has set the bar very high. Triumph has already missed an opportunity to be the famous nose-length ahead: You could have installed a regulated catalytic converter instead of an unregulated one. But that can still be.
