New in 2016: Suzuki VanVan 200 arrives in Europe
In addition to the new GSX-R1000 "95% ready" and the updated SV650, Suzuki is exhibiting at the Milan Motorcycle Show a model unheard of in Europe: the VanVan 200, "real false novelty" insofar as it is a version circulating in Japan and some Asian countries for ages.
In addition to the new GSX-R1000 and the SV650, Suzuki is exhibiting at the Milan Motorcycle Show a model unheard of in Europe: the VanVan 200, "real false novelty" insofar as it is a version circulating in Japan and in some Asian countries for ages.
Aesthetically and technically identical to the VanVan 125 – this small Scrambler with big tires very popular near the beaches – this VanVan 200 only differs from it by its displacement increased to 199 cc (instead of 125). This results in a very slight "rab" of power on the proven air-cooled single cylinder with two valves: instead of 12 hp on the 125, the 200 develops 17..
In France, this increase in engine capacity is also – and above all – accompanied by the need to pass your A license (large cube) to take control, hence the generally rather limited success of 200 cc motorcycles in view of their low performance gain.
"No big commercial claims"
"We do not have big commercial claims", confesses Suzuki France to MNC, explaining that the importation of the VanVan 200 in Europe responds to a demand from "customers wanting a little more power and specialized VanVan dealers". Note that this motorcycle with the contained weight (128 kg) meets Euro3 standards – and not Euro4 mandatory in 2016 – because it is not a new model.
In short, a model intended for a discreet career … At MNC, on the other hand, we say that a VanVan with a displacement of 500 to 600 cc would meet with much greater success, by relying on the current mode of vintage and the image of "sand motorcycles" reflected by its large studded tires, its very high handlebars and its high silencer !
