New products from Harley-Davidson, Honda and BMW
Late starters
Last minute news for the upcoming season: Harley comes with a V-Rod offshoot, Honda dresses the CB 1300. BMW presents the K 1200 R Power-Cup and works behind the scenes on a two-cylinder sports enduro.
Anyone who has ever pulled a little harder on the cable on a Harley-Davidson V-Rod, chasing the wide handlebar with no will and no restraint-
fluttered, already suspected: The engine is definitely called for higher things, it would also cut an excellent figure in a crisp naked bike. Rumors that Harley was working on another V-Rod-based model had been around for a long time. Now finally the Americans unveiled their new model. The VRSCR Street Rod reveals on the
At first glance, that it is based very much on the V-Rod, and technically it does not differ much from the cruiser.
Because that’s not the only thing that stayed
V2, but also other essential elements such as frame, rear and tank. The seating position is the same as in the driving-
On the other hand, the footpegs moved back in the middle and the narrower handlebars can now be described more as gathered. So that the hot rod-style naked bike can be shooed through the corners a little faster than the low cruiser, it has sporty Brembo brakes and stiff suspension elements. A 43 mm upside-down fork works at the front, while the Street Rod has crisper struts at the rear. The whole vehicle, especially the rear, has been raised so far that the seat is a full 100 millimeters higher. This not only affects the seating position, it also increases the freedom of lean angle enormously.
With a 1700 millimeter wheelbase, the new one is as long as a semi-trailer truck, and the steering head angle changes from a flat 57 to a flat 60 degrees. The Street Rod will certainly not be a lively curve speedster, its strength will be the rapid trigger in addition to the cool appearance. Why the water-cooled
V-twin cylinder has the best systems. The four-valve engine remained essentially untouched, a new exhaust system gave it an additional three hp, so that it is now specified with 120 hp at 8250 rpm.
While the Harley Street Rod is designed as a pure naked bike with sprinting qualities, Honda can optionally clothe the CB 1300 with a half-shell to underline long-distance comfort with better wind protection. The angular shape brings back memories of classic Bol-d’Or-Hondas of the 80s.
Storage compartments are integrated in the cockpit to stow smaller utensils. The new one, which will be available from May, is only available with ABS for 10990 euros, the basic machine optionally with or without. It costs 10 090 euros, the ABS 600 euros extra. All versions also start the coming season with minor detailed changes. The injection is reprogrammed, which is supposed to make the response smoother. New side covers allow the machine to become slimmer in the area of ββthe legs.
The fat CB certainly doesn’t have any sporting ambitions. On the other hand, BMW started with the new naked bike hammer, the 160 hp K 1200 R, in 2005-
even its own racing series, the B.MW Motorrad Power-Cup. It will replace the Boxer Cup that was previously part of the road world championship. The start of the new seven-race series within the framework of the French GP in Le Mans will take place on May 15th, and the wild riders will also be at the start on July 30th at the Sachsenring. The machines are based on the
The series machine, which will be launched in the spring and which has been made suitable for racing with Metzeler racing tires, plenty of carbon fiber, a tight chassis and an openly roaring exhaust.
Another Bavarian project, the R 1200 GS HP (High Performance), a sporty version of the travel enduro, is top secret. Recently, machines in the US were used in desert races-
set where the current boxer
hangs in a completely redesigned chassis. The frame is a solid bridge construction in which the motor is integrated as a load-bearing component. At the front, an upside-down fork replaces the Telelever, which is unsuitable for tough off-road use. There is also plenty of suspension travel available at the rear. While the single swing arm has been lengthened and reinforced, the rear axle drive is again a standard part.
Rumor has it that this race is going to happen-
only use one in small series-
A series machine that can be joined will follow, which is likely to be a lot more expensive compared to the standard GS. You should be more than 15,000 euros until delivery
have saved up. But there is still a little time left.
