Yamaha XT H2O
Virtual stew with water-steam
Maxime Lefebvre is a motorcycle designer. For a thesis, he designed a modern Yamaha XT 500 in 2016, which is powered by pure water power.
The Frenchman Lefebvre is a designer and has already worked in the two-wheeler industry for Peugeot and Yamaha. He is currently employed at Kiska-Design, where the design of the current KTM motorcycles is also created. During his time at Yamaha, with the support of the Japanese design department, he developed a futuristic concept for a new one for his thesis Yamaha XT 500 drawn.
The XT 500 was simple but robustly built, mastered both asphalt under its wheels and light terrain and was relatively light. The same lightness and versatility should also characterize the design of the Yamaha XT H2O. Its appearance is correspondingly minimalist.
Water pressure as a drive
Maxime Lefebvre
The front wheel is guided by a fork according to the Hossack principle, the rear wheel hangs on a single-sided swing arm. Both rims are transparent. Disc brakes are used to decelerate – double at the front and single at the rear. The central element of the XT H2O is the water motor suspended in an L-shaped frame, which is similar in its design to a V2 leaning forward. In this, pure water is kept in circulation with a pump. The exact working principle remains in the dark. But its environmental friendliness is beyond question. What is clear, however, is that power is also transmitted to the rear wheel via water pressure.
Conclusion
A real successor to an XT 500 is long overdue. And if it could only run on water in an environmentally friendly way – that would be a real hammer. So far it’s just a designer’s dream.
