A few stolen photos circulating on the web suggest the imminent arrival of a brand new engine at Harley-Davidson, one of the peculiarities of which is the use of four valves per cylinder. This Milwaukee-Eight ("eight" for "8" valves) is accompanied by the number "107", which suggests an increase in displacement to around 1750 cc against 1690 for the current Twin Cam 103.

Improved performance and upgrading to Euro4 standards

This new "Milwaukee-Eight 107" engine – a name registered by the Motor Company since spring 2015 – would respond to two issues that Harley must face: gain in performance to meet the competition (its compatriot Indian in the lead) and ensure the transition to Euro4. The increase in displacement meets these demands, as does the distribution from 2 to 4 valves per cylinder – technology hitherto reserved for the and for motorcycles apart in the H-D range..

Potentially, these mechanical changes could translate into a gain of 5-10 hp and around 10Nm of torque. The distribution would still be based on rocker arms, while a double ignition system – two spark plugs per cylinder – is mentioned across the Atlantic.

The CVOs, very high-end models traditionally of superior displacement, would receive for their part a version boosted to 114 ci (Cubic Inches), or almost 1868 cc. The opening angle of the V remains of course at 45 °, tradition requires !

As for its cooling method, it should adopt on the top-of-the-range Touring models the partially liquid system already in force, particularly on the or the. To be continued on MNC: stay tuned for the official details of this new engine, as well as the 2017 models for which it is intended !
