Yamaha XJR 1300 in the PS driving report
She’s got the look
Content of
The Yamaha XJR 1300 has never submitted to fashion dictates in its 20-year career. Until now. The four-cylinder is dressed appropriately with a new look in the trendy Cafe Racer look.
Actually, she had overshadowed that a bit in the past few years Yamaha XJR 1300. But the Honda CB 1100 is the last air-cooled big bike with a classic Japanese character and is a classic in itself. The retro wave came at just the right time and brought the evergreen in the Yamaha range back into the spotlight. "Man, we have one of the last air-cooled big blocks on the market, you have to make something out of it," one might have thought at the Yamaha headquarters.

She’s got the look
Yamaha XJR 1300 brought to the traveling people in special promotions for 8995 euros last season.
Eye gets its money’s worth
But the eye gets its money’s worth. It starts with details such as the black anodized notches, the seat bench with contrasting stitching, or the newly drawn dials of the analog instruments in chrome. No superfluous trim bothers the airy rear of the Yamaha XJR 1300. The matt black four-in-one system tastes damn like racing. The aluminum side covers, which are modeled on the start number fields, match this.
And the delicate headlight, which is carried by beautiful, perforated aluminum brackets, optically tops the solution of last year’s Yamaha XJR 1300 by lengths. The telescopic fork’s standpipes, which are coated with a black, glossy, resistant DLC (diamond-like carbon) layer for better response, blend in perfectly. The icing on the cake is the petite tank, which with two recesses nestles around the upper parts of the steel double-loop frame.

The four-cylinder, bursting with power, shapes the driving experience
So the Yamaha XJR 1300 looks a bit more delicate than before, but is still a stately appearance. A full 242 kilos means nine kilos less than before. But this weight loss is largely due to the tank volume, which has shrunk from 21 to 14.5 liters, and the omission of the main stand.
And despite all its sporty attitude, the Yamaha XJR 1300 prefers less the merciless gasping than the well-groomed brisk ride. Above all, it is the four-cylinder, bursting with power, that shapes the driving experience. Cuddly up to 4000 rpm, it easily shakes its power out of its sleeve. The transmission sorts the gears with slippery smoothness, and only those who want to chase the XJR through alternating curves at full gallop have to work hard on the handlebars. But then you didn’t really understand the nature of the ABS-free XJR anyway. This boom is not chased away, driving is celebrated here. Enjoy the sensitively appealing fork, how neutrally the XJR traces its path in long curves, let your gaze wander over the finely drawn instruments. In the rear-view mirrors, apart from the upper arms, nothing can be seen anyway. Enjoyment is the order of the day in the saddle of the XJR. Now more than ever.
