Introduction, Kawasaki ZRX 1100
Kawasaki ZRX 1100
Visually based on historical models, technically at the latest level: With the ZRX 1100, a new big bike era begins at Kawasaki.
Kawasaki’s most recent interpretation of the Big Bike theme is deeply rooted in the early 80s, when the flagship Japanese motorcycle manufacturers were primarily "distinguished" by their powerful engines in impotent chassis.. Pretty much the last thing you could say about this four-cylinder car was racing suitability. Which did not prevent the Americans – who else – from getting these "superbikes" onto the slopes. Of course not in the standard trim: Reinforced frames, wider wheels, better suspension elements and more stable brakes helped the young men behind the wide handlebars to practice the art of drifting. One of the most successful cross drivers was Eddie Lawson. Hey gave Kawasaki two Superbike championships, after which Kawasaki gave the motorcycle world an Eddie Lawson replica. The bright green painted Z 1000 R looked superficially like the original, but on closer inspection – and while driving – it turned out to be a sham: a perfectly normal dozen motorcycle that quickly disappeared again. As a late satisfaction for enthusiasts who were bitterly disappointed at the time and as a lure for new friends of the original Superbike idea, Kawasaki promises with the ZRX 1100 to reconcile classic appearances and top-class technology and to deliver the real Superbike replica 14 years later. First and foremost, top-class technology means a state-of-the-art engine: a liquid-cooled four-cylinder with two overhead camshafts, four-valve technology and a vibration-reducing balance shaft. Conveniently, this drive unit did not have to be reissued, but – embellished with a couple of indicated cooling fins – could be taken over from the GPZ 1100. It sits in a double-loop tubular steel frame with a sturdy telescopic fork with adjustable damping at the front and a torsion-resistant truss swing arm with two fully adjustable "backpack" struts at the front. The front brake with six-piston calipers on floating discs comes from the Kawasaki sports department. Visually, it forms the sharpest contrast to the appearance of the machine, which is not painted in Kawasaki Racing Green, but otherwise interprets the classic superbike theme in a stylish manner. In peaceful coexistence with the Zephyr that is still being produced, the ZRX 1100 targeting the big bike competition from Suzuki and Yamaha. Which should ensure that the price of the high-tech oldies does not skyrocket.
