The new big sporty roadster KTM 1290 Super Duke R finally unveils all its technical characteristics on a, almost a year after being announced in the form of. With its 180 hp and state-of-the-art equipment, the "beast" intends to cannibalize the competition: it’s going to be fighter !
More powerful than the Hypersport RC8 !
We suspected that KTM would not give in to half measures with its new roadster cut for arson: its technical sheet confirms it, the 1290 Super Duke R is a monster (read in particular) … Given for 180 hp at 8870 rpm, its 75 ° V-twin of 1301 cc would deliver no less than 144 Nm of torque, including 100 Nm available from 2500 rpm.
To date, it is the most powerful engine at KTM since it develops 5 horsepower more than the twin-cylinder of the RC8R from which it is derived, and one horse more than that of the "pistarde only" RC8R Track !
Knowing that the Super Duke 1290 in its "R" version is advertised for a hyper contained weight of 189 kg dry (only 5 more than the RC8R), big hands will undoubtedly be necessary to exploit its potential! A good length of legs will also be a plus, as the saddle is perched 835mm from the ground.
Provident, KTM has provided its 2014 novelty with a battery of sophisticated electronic aids, just to avoid being orbiting just out of the dealership. "The Beast", as the Austrians call it, notably receives a "ride-by-wire" electronic accelerator, a disconnectable anti-skating and three injection maps: Rain, Street and Sport.
The action of the impressive Brembo M50 monobloc brake calipers is for its part supported by a very elaborate and disconnectable Bosch ABS, which includes a "Supermotard" mode allowing the rear assistance to be deactivated only. We let you imagine for what purpose !
The hydraulically operated clutch includes an anti-dribble, a welcome feature during bleeding downshifts, especially with a large twin cylinder with pistons measuring 108mm in diameter (71mm of stroke) !
A very sharp cycle part
Able to shoot down from 0 to 200 km / h in 7.2 seconds, the Super Duke 1290 R loads 18 liters of gasoline in its sharp-lined tank and is fitted with standard daytime running lights. Engine manufacturers have also taken care of reliability, since the interval between each major overhaul is set at 15,000 km.
Side cycle, the KTM is equipped as usual with "homemade solutions": the frame is an elegant tubular trellis in steel reinforced with chrome molybdenum, the fork is a fully adjustable 48 mm WP, just like the mono-shock of the same manufacturer.
Asked by Site, KTM France has not yet communicated the price and availability of this "bestial" 2014 novelty.
While waiting for its official launch at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan on November 5, the Orange brand is stepping up the pressure via well-muscled videos (see below). To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
