Light as a feather and perfect for learning

Warning, warning: The following driving report contains electrical content. If you don’t let that put you off, read about a fun trialer for in between, the Oset 24.0 Racing Senior, in this practical test.

M.There are quite a few motorcycles that you didn’t know you wanted to have. Here is a new model for your list: The Oset 24.0 Racing Senior is a toy for big children, a motorcycle for in between and yes – we serve a piece of the colorful electric cake again. A real alternative to excessive quarantine baking and also guaranteed to the next mountain bike tour, which you actually only do because it comes closest to the motorcycle. But I promise, the Oset will come even closer to it, even if some components have been borrowed from the bicycle sector: the front and rear brakes from Sram are both operated on the handlebars, which anticipates the absence of the clutch. The comparatively thin RST fork actually wanted to dampen a mountain bike, the chain comes from the kart sector. Decisive factors that might stand in the way of a course record on the Nordschleife, but which provide one of the most massive advantages in trials sport: low weight. Since everyone suspects that this vehicle has no business being on the Nurburgring, one thing is clear: this calculation works out.

The perfect learning device for non-trialers too

In case you’ve been wondering: Yes, you might be interested in this thing even if you haven’t had anything to do with trials before. Or rather because of that. Because if you look at the motorcycle from the point of view of an editor who has been practicing this sport for 15 years, a slightly clouded picture emerges, with which the clutch now comes into play again. The fact is that this is at least enormously important, if not indispensable, for serious obstacles and technically difficult passages. But since the rear brake and nothing but the rear brake is on the left index finger, nothing helps to develop the power of the motor exactly where it should go to the centimeter. The sole power over the motor is therefore in the right wrist, which can go a long way when trained well, but no longer at a certain level. The spontaneity and the torque of the electric motor, plus the 48 kilos live weight, help, but the one second to go from zero to power is exactly one too long for trialers spoiled by burners.

However, if you turn the regulator down, the Oset turns out to be a training device that grows with the traveler and a grateful introduction to motorcycling in general. Because the controllers are not a metaphor: speed, power and response behavior can be continuously adjusted and thus adapted to the ability and the situation. This cannot be compared with the effect of a mapping setting, but rather with the volume and station search of a radio. Those who have then defined the right setting for themselves are initially downright grateful for the absent clutch. Because unfamiliar geometry, missing bench and narrow silhouette already require some concentration. Imagine never again stalling a motorcycle in a slow, tight bend. And so that exactly that doesn’t happen to you on the heavy GS Twinere, you can use the light trialer well for driving technique training. Often an overturned motorcycle is not only lying on its side, but also because of the wrong posture.

Conclusion

The Oset is certainly not an everyday occurrence, but its handling is even more so: the battery can be removed for charging, anyone who wants to use the toy in real terrain can transport it lying down in the car, and whoever wants to drive it in the garden every day will still be able to greeted nicely by the neighbor. Finally, a small note from the photo production: We have had many during which the birds have twittered, but few where we have also heard them.
